Measurement and modelling of the transient thermal-mechanical strain field during GMA welding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The state of residual stress in welded joints is a well-studied topic, and many methodsof residual stress measurement are now available. However, far less is known aboutthe transient strains which occur during the welding process, even though these ...

Hemochromatosis alters the sensitivity of red blood cells to mechanical stress

open access: yes, 2020
Background: Hemochromatosis (HH) is characterized by chronic iron accumulation, leading to deleterious effects to various organ systems. A common approach to managing iron load involves large-volume venesection.

Emerging Roles of circRNA Related to the Mechanical Stress in Human Cartilage Degradation of Osteoarthritis

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2017
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in the development of various diseases; however, knowledge on circRNAs in osteoarthritis (OA) is limited. This study aims to identify circRNA expression in different regions affected by OA and to explore the function

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Decoupling the Roles of Cell Shape and Mechanical Stress in Orienting and Cueing Epithelial Mitosis

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2017
Distinct mechanisms involving cell shape and mechanical force are known to influence the rate and orientation of division in cultured cells. However, uncoupling the impact of shape and force in tissues remains challenging. Combining stretching of Xenopus

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Mechanical Analysis of Woven Fabrics:The State of the Art

open access: yes, 2011
The automation and integration of processes in the textile industry is dictated by the increasing need to offer specialized products at optimum quality and low cost, satisfying at the same time the fast cycles of fashion trends or in the case of ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
