From dry yarns to complex 3D woven fabrics: a unified simulation methodology for deformation mechanics of textiles in tension, shear and draping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Common methods of modelling the behaviour of fibrous materials, such as yarns and (woven) fabrics, is to treat them as continuous solids. The fibrous behaviour is then taken into account by appropriate constitutive laws.

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Effective therapeutic targeting of CTNNB1‐mutant hepatoblastoma with WNTinib

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
WNTinib, a Wnt/CTNNB1 inhibitor, was tested in hepatoblastoma (HB) experimental models. It delayed tumor growth and improved survival in CTNNB1‐mutant in vivo models. In organoids, WNTinib outperformed cisplatin and showed enhanced efficacy in combination therapy, supporting its potential as a targeted treatment for CTNNB1‐mutated HB.

Influence of geometry, elasticity properties and boundary conditions on the Mode I purity in sandwich composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The present work addresses the problem of skin/core debonding in sandwich materials. The main goal is to carry out parametric analyses for studying the influence of various materials, geometrical parameters and boundary conditions of sandwich fracture ...

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Revisiting the optical $PT$-symmetric dimer

open access: yes, 2016
Optics has proved a fertile ground for the experimental simulation of quantum mechanics. Most recently, optical realizations of $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric quantum mechanics have been shown, both theoretically and experimentally, opening the door to ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Comparative Study of Two Aging Treatments on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of an Ultra-Fine Grained Mg-10Y-6Gd-1.5Zn-0.5Zr Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2018
Developing high strength and high ductility magnesium alloys is an important issue for weight-reduction applications. In this work, we explored the feasibility of manipulating nanosized precipitates on LPSO-contained (long period stacking ordered phase ...

Second law of thermodynamics and the failure of rock materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The relation of nonequilibrium thermodynamics to some failure and fracture theories of rock mechanics is investigated. The basic concepts are given to connect failure to the properties of material equations describing the elastic properties.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.
