Combination of fracture and damage mechanics for numerical failure analysis
A new approach for the analysis of crack propagation in brittle materials is proposed, which is based on a combination of fracture mechanics and continuum damage mechanics within the context of the finite element method.

Multifunctionality and control of the crumpling and unfolding of large-area graphene [PDF]
Crumpled graphene films are widely used, for instance in electronics energy storage, composites and biomedicine. Although it is known that the degree of crumpling affects graphene’s properties and the performance of graphene-based devices and materials ...

Development of a High Strength Mg-9Li Alloy via Multi-Pass ECAP and Post-Rolling
In this study, a high-strength Mg-9Li alloy was developed via multi-pass equal-channel-angular-pressing (ECAP) and post rolling, of which the yield tensile stress (YTS) and ultimate tensile stress (UTS) were 166 MPa and 174 MPa representing about 219 ...

RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Mechanical behavior and size effect of the staggered bio-structure materials
Staggered structure materials, or "brick and mortar" structure materials, are widely observed in natural biomaterials. In this paper, based on strain gradient theory, a trans-scale shear-lag model is developed to characterize the mechanical properties ...

This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.
