Medicago – Sinorhizobium symbiotic specificity evolution and the geographic expansion of Medicago [PDF]
AbstractThe legume genus Medicago interacts with soil bacteria commonly referred to as rhizobia, in a nitrogen fixing symbiosis. We analysed the diversity of symbiotic association specificity among the two organisms, and its evolution in the plant genus. Nitrogen fixation tests and molecular phylogenetic reconstructions revealed that the genus Medicago

Although Medicago sativa forms highly effective symbioses with the comparatively acid-sensitive genus Ensifer, its introduction into acid soils appears to have selected for symbiotic interactions with acid-tolerant R. favelukesii strains.

Natural Variation of NAR5 Determines Nitrogenase Activity and the Yield in Soybean
This study identified NAR5, a gene encoding a subtilisin‐like protease, that regulates nitrogenase activity in soybean nodules. Overexpressing NAR5 delayed nodule senescence, enhancing nitrogenase activity, yield, and low‐nitrogen tolerance. The elite haplotype NAR5HapI‐1 linked to superior nitrogenase activity and greater seed weight has been ...

Integration of novel SSR and gene-based SNP marker loci in the chickpea genetic map and establishment of new anchor points with Medicago truncatula genome [PDF]
This study presents the development and mapping of simple sequence repeat (SSR) and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers in chickpea. The mapping population is based on an inter-specific cross between domesticated and non-domesticated genotypes ...

From Defense Executor to Engineering Target: Harnessing Lignin for Crop Resistance
Lignin serves as both a physical and chemical executor of broad‐spectrum plant immunity. This review systematically summarizes classical and recent advances in lignin‐mediated immunity, outlines the multifaceted regulatory modules controlling lignification under biotic stress, discusses key physiological and biochemical mechanisms behind lignin‐based ...

Under steady–state conditions, potential nitrogen mineralization in soil under grasslands is closely tied to potential carbon mineralization. This study provides supporting evidence that field–specific nitrogen fertilizer recommendations could be indicated by using a simple and rapid analysis of soil–test biological activity.
