Determining factors of the cognitive outcome in early treated PKU: A study of 39 pediatric patients

open access: yesMolecular Genetics and Metabolism Reports, 2019
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a disorder of phenylalanine metabolism, characterized by a neurotoxic phenylalanine (Phe) accumulation, and treatable with a life-long Phe-restricted diet. Though early and continuously treated PKU (ETPKU) patients exhibit normal

Agreement between methods of retinoscopy, conventional subjective refraction and fogging subjective refraction [PDF]

open access: yesReviews in Clinical Medicine
Purpose: to compare the refractive error measurements achieved through three distinct techniques: retinoscopy, subjective method, and the subjective fogging method. Methods: Participants included 223 young adults aged 18 to 36 years (mean age: 25.63±5.31)

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Making healthcare safer by understanding, designing and buying better IT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
When nobody or nothing notices an error, it may turn into patient harm. We show that medical devices ignore many errors, and therefore do not adequately support patient safety.

Landscape of BRAF transcript variants in human cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigate the annotation of BRAF variants, focusing on protein‐coding BRAF‐220 (formerly BRAF‐reference) and BRAF‐204 (BRAF‐X1). The IsoWorm pipeline allows us to quantify these variants in human cancer, starting from RNA‐sequencing data. BRAF‐204 is more abundant than BRAF‐220 and impacts patient survival.
