A process to deduplicate individuals for regional chronic disease prevalence estimates using a distributed data network of electronic health records

open access: yesLearning Health Systems, 2022
Introduction Learning health systems can help estimate chronic disease prevalence through distributed data networks (DDNs). Concerns remain about bias introduced to DDN prevalence estimates when individuals seeking care across systems are counted ...

Statistical supervised meta-ensemble algorithm for medical record linkage

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Informatics, 2019
Identifying unique patients across multiple care facilities or services is a major challenge in providing continuous care and undertaking health research. Identifying and linking patients without compromising privacy and security is an emerging issue in the big data era.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Secure Privacy Preserving Record Linkage of Large Databases by Modified Bloom Filter Encodings

open access: yesInternational Journal of Population Data Science, 2017
Objective In most European settings, record linkage across different institutions has to be based on personal identifiers such as names, birthday or place of birth. To protect the privacy of research subjects, the identifiers have to be encrypted.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

The Computer Medical Record in Health Screening) )

open access: yes, 1971
Computerized data banks require very complex patient record files. Our method of storing medical data from a multiphasic health screening program is described in detail, induding the mechanics for providing on-line medical record linkage.

Implications of the problem orientated medical record (POMR) for research using electronic GP databases: a comparison of the Doctors Independent Network Database (DIN) and the General Practice Research Database (GPRD). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Background The General Practice Research Database (GPRD) and Doctor's Independent Network Database (DIN), are large electronic primary care databases compiled in the UK during the 1990s.

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
