Novel peptide nucleic acid-based real-time PCR assay for detection and genotyping of Megalocytivirus
, 2020Megalocytivirus, the causative agent for Red Sea Bream Iridoviral Disease (RSIVD), is classified into three genotypes based on its phylogeny: Red Sea Bream Iridovirus (RSIV), Infectious Spleen and Kidney Necrosis Virus (ISKNV), and Turbot Reddish Body ...

First report of megalocytivirus in ornamental fish in Italy
2023Introduction: The trade in marine ornamental fish is a multi-billion-dollar industry involving over 50 exporting and importing countries. Europe is one of the three major importers of marine ornamental fish, along with the United States and Japan. Megalocytiviruses are associated with severe mortality in ornamental fish aquaculture, including both ...

Aquaculture, 2014
Abstract Megalocytivirus is a major viral agent that affects fresh and marine fish, and causes serious economic losses in aquaculture in Asian countries. As filter-feeding organisms, bivalve molluscs may act as viral transmitters following the capture of a released virus into seawater from infected fish.

Transcriptome analysis of Orange-Spotted Grouper between Ranavirus and Megalocytivirus Infections
2015Grouper is an important aquaculture fish with high economic value for several Asian countries. However, during growing stages, groupers are severely threatened by grouper iridovirus. In this study, we applied next-generation sequencing technology for analyzing groupers infected by two different iridoviruses of TGIV and GIV at a transciptomic level.

Prokaryotes contain many DNA binding proteins with large molecular weights and multiple domains. DNA binding proteins are involved in DNA replication, transcription, and other physiological processes. In this study, a DNA binding protein, containing an Ftsk-like protein (FLP) domain, was cloned and characterized from SKIV-ZJ07, a member of the RSIV ...

Rock bream iridovirus (RBIV) disease in rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus) remains an unsolved problem in Korea aquaculture farms. CpG ODNs are known as immunostimulant, can improve the innate immune system of fish providing resistance to diseases. In this study, we evaluated the potential of CpG ODNs to induce anti-viral status protecting rock bream ...

Megalocytiviruses, particularly red seabream iridovirus, infect a broad range of fish including both freshwater and marine species. Although a limited number of infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) strains have been reported in association with mortality events in marine aquaculture species, the potential host range for ISKNV strains ...

The distribution of virus-infected cells in the organs of Rock Bream naturally infected with megalocytivirus is reported. Examination of sections of liver, spleen and kidney stained by haematoxylin and eosin (HE) and periodic acid Schiff (PAS) revealed the presence of swollen and degenerate cells having morphology consistent with leucocytes.
