Coupling Interfacial Redox‐Reactions with In Situ Proton Generation for the Photoelectrochemical Separation of Rare‐Earth Elements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To enhance the sustainability of electrochemical separations for resource recovery, a photoelectrochemical ion recovery system is developed that utilizes renewable solar energy. A composite integrating titianium dioxide nanorods and a redox‐copolymer enables spontaneous cation adsorption and light‐activated redox reactions for regeneration, thus ...

Measuring the energy spent by parturient women in fasting and in ingesting caloric replacement (HONEY) Mensuración de la energia despendida en el ayuno y en el aporte calórico (MIEL) en parturientas Mensuração da energia despendida no jejum e no aporte calórico (MEL) em parturientes

open access: yesRevista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem, 2007
This research aims to measure the energy spending in parturient women of low gestation risk. Participants were selected randomly and submitted to fasting (n=15; Group I) or honey ingestion (n=15; Group II). Data were collected by means of capillary blood

Single‐Step Conversion of Metal Impurities in CNTs to Electroactive Metallic Nitride Nanoclusters for Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A single‐step, low‐temperature co‐pyrolysis process removes encapsulated seed metal NPs (10–50 nm) from CNTs, redistributing them as surface‐anchored metal and metal–nitride NCs (1–1.5 nm). Herein, Ni3N NCs achieve an ultra‐low onset overpotential for CO2 reduction to CO with >98% Faradaic efficiency across 100–700 mA cm−2.

An Animal‐Free Patient‐Derived Tissue‐Mimetic Biochip Model of the Human Synovial Membrane for Human‐Relevant Osteoarthritis Research

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Reihs et al. present the development of a humanized, animal‐free synovial membrane model for osteoarthritis. Methods include 3D biochip cultures of human‐primary OA synoviocytes with matrix and serum surrogates. Results show replication of synovial architecture and increased Yap1 expression.
