Melt inclusions in volcanic rocks

open access: yes, 2011
We studied melt inclusions from Mutnovsky Volcano, Kamchatka, Russia as part of a larger project designed to contrain the eruptive history of Mutnovsky.

DiadFit: An open-source Python3 tool for peak fitting of Raman data from silicate melts and CO2 fluids

open access: yesVolcanica
We present DiadFit—an open-source Python3 tool for efficient processing of Raman spectroscopy data collected from fluid inclusions, melt inclusions and silicate melts. DiadFit is optimized to fit the characteristic peaks from CO2 fluids (Fermi diads, hot

Castration‐resistant prostate cancer cells are addicted to the high activity of cyclin‐dependent kinase 2

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that emergence of castration‐resistant prostate (CRPC) is associated with significant upregulation of cyclins that positively regulate cyclin‐dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) and concomitant downregulation of CDK4 cyclins. This renders CRPC cells dependent on the high activity of CDK2, and CDK2 inhibitors synergistically sensitize CRPC cells to both ...

The VHL tumor suppressor at the crossroad of protein folding, aggregation, and cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Mutations, environmental stress, and chaperone dysfunction can destabilize pVHL, promoting its conversion from the native folded state into amyloid‐like assemblies. This transition may contribute to protein storage, cell dormancy, survival, and drug resistance.

Melt inclusions in augite of the Nakhla martian meteorite: Evidence for basaltic parental melt

open access: yes, 2005
Nakhla contains crystallized melt inclusions that were trapped in augite and olivine when these phases originally formed on Mars. Our study involved rehomogenization (slow-heating and fast-heating) experiments on multiphase melt inclusions in Nakhla ...

Melt-peridotite reaction recorded in the chemistry of spinel and melt inclusions in basalt from 43oN Mid Atlantic Ridge

open access: yes, 1998
Compositions of spinel and glassy melt inclusions in primitive olivine (Fo 89.3-91) from basalt AII32 D11-177 at 43°N, Mid-Atlantic Ridge fall into two principal groups.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Geochemical Characteristics and Water Content of Melt Inclusions in the Tuff of the Tiaojishan Formation, Liujiang Basin

open access: yesYankuang ceshi
Water, as the primary volatile component in magmatic systems, has a significant impact on the formation and evolution of magma. The Tiaojishan Formation igneous rocks in the Liujiang Basin are significant products of Yanshanian volcanic activity ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.
