Force Induced DNA Melting

open access: yes, 2008
When pulled along the axis, double-strand DNA undergoes a large conformational change and elongates roughly twice its initial contour length at a pulling force about 70 pN.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

A Review of Heat Transfer and Numerical Modeling for Scrap Melting in Steelmaking Converters

open access: yesMetals
Steel is an important product in many engineering sectors; however, steelmaking remains one of the largest CO2 emitters. Therefore, new governmental policies drive the steelmaking industry toward a cleaner and more sustainable operation such as the gas ...

Coarse Molecular-Dynamics Determination of the Onset of Structural Transitions: Melting of Crystalline Solids

open access: yes, 2006
Using a coarse molecular-dynamics (CMD) approach with an appropriate choice of coarse variable (order parameter), we map the underlying effective free-energy landscape for the melting of a crystalline solid.

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Method for attaching a fused-quartz mirror to a conductive metal substrate [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
A fused-quartz mirror is attached to a conductive metal substrate by the following steps: tinning one surface of a fused-quartz mirror with a solder of substantially pure indium; tinning a metallic substrate with an indium eutectic alloy consisting ...

Surface melting of methane and methane film on magnesium oxide

open access: yes, 2000
Experiments on surface melting of several organic materials have shown contradictory results. We study the Van der Waals interactions between interfaces in surface melting of the bulk CH_4 and interfacial melting of the CH_4 film on the MgO substrate ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve
