Crystal nuclei templated nanostructured membranes prepared by solvent crystallization and polymer migration [PDF]
Currently, production of porous polymeric membranes for filtration is predominated by the phase-separation process. However, this method has reached its technological limit, and there have been no significant breakthrough over the last decade.

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Why on earth do we need experiments to choose the right membrane? [PDF]
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a relatively inexpensive, versatile, expedient, simple, non destructive, and reagent free technique for fractionating biological solutions in order to purify and concentrate high added value compounds.

Development of polymeric hollow fiber membranes containing catalytic metal nanoparticules. [PDF]
Metal nanoparticles (MNPs) have unique physico-chemical properties advantageous for catalytic applications which differ from bulk material. However, the main drawback of MNPs is their insufficient stability due to a high trend for aggregation.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Fenton coupled with nanofiltration for elimination of Bisphenol A [PDF]
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a typical Endocrine Disrupting Chemical (EDC), which is potentially harmful during wastewater reclamation. In this study, its degradation during Fenton's process under different operational conditions was investigated in combination ...

In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Dead-end filtration of yeast suspensions: correlating specific resistance and flux data using artificial neural networks [PDF]
The specific cake resistance in dead-end filtration is a complex function of suspension properties and operating conditions. In this study, the specific resistance of resuspended dried bakers yeast suspensions was measured in a series of 150 experiments ...

Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Protocol for the assessment of viral retention capability of membranes [PDF]
A series of experiments has been carried out to determine the Log removal value (LRV) of MS2 bacteriophages suspended in various buffers (osmosed water, tap water, aqueous solutions of NaCl and phosphate buffer solution) during filtration through hollow ...
