Membrane Insertion of the Pleckstrin Homology Domain Variable Loop 1 Is Critical for Dynamin-catalyzed Vesicle Scission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The GTPase dynamin catalyzes the scission of deeply invaginated clathrin-coated pits at the plasma membrane, but the mechanisms governing dynamin-mediated membrane fission remain poorly understood.

Synergistic Catalysis for Closed‐Loop Alcohol Refining: Concurrent H2 Evolution and Selective Oxidation

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
Photocatalytic, electrocatalytic, and photoelectrocatalytic systems exhibit a clear synergistic integration logic in closed‐loop alcohol refining—concurrently driving hydrogen evolution and selective alcohol oxidation to enable the directed conversion of alcohols into high‐value chemicals.

Structure and function of the M2 amphipathic helix in Influenza virus membrane scission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Influenza A is an enveloped, negative sense RNA virus which causes annual epidemics and major pandemics. Assembly and budding of new viral particles is a complex and multistep process, of which many aspects remain unclear despite many years of research ...

Recruitment dynamics of ESCRT-III and Vps4 to endosomes and implications for reverse membrane budding

open access: yeseLife, 2017
The ESCRT machinery mediates reverse membrane scission. By quantitative fluorescence lattice light-sheet microscopy, we have shown that ESCRT-III subunits polymerize rapidly on yeast endosomes, together with the recruitment of at least two Vps4 hexamers.

Enhancing antifouling property of polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane by grafting zwitterionic copolymer via UV-initiated polymerization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A new kind of zwitterionic molecule, [3-(methacryloylamino)propyl]-dimethyl (3-sulfopropyl) ammonium hydroxide inner salt (MPDSAH) was grafted onto polysulfone (PSF) ultrafiltration membrane surface using benzophenone (BP) as the initiator to improve the

Characterization of structural features of food molten‐globule state proteins: An overview

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract During food processing, pH, ionic strength, and temperature drive conformational transitions from native states to partially folded intermediates and fully unfolded states. The molten‐globule (MG) state typically preserves substantial secondary structure but has relaxed tertiary packing, thereby modulating protein solubility, emulsifying ...

Regulators of Lysosome Function and Dynamics in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2017
Lysosomes, the major membrane-bound degradative organelles, have a multitude of functions in eukaryotic cells. Lysosomes are the terminal compartments in the endocytic pathway, though they display highly dynamic behaviors, fusing with each other and with

Chemistry Underlying the Behavior of Food and Agricultural Components During Industrial Manufacturing Processes and Its Implications in Quality Assurance, Food Quality, and Food Safety Management: A Systematic Review

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Industrial manufacturing processes have transformative effects on the components of food matrix. These transformations in food matrix and components have direct implications for quality assurance (QA), food quality (e.g., nutritional profile and texture), and food safety management (e.g., pathogen control and toxin mitigation). ABSTRACT This systematic
