Antifolding activity of hsp60 couples protein import into the mitochondrial matrix with export to the intermembrane space [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Cytochrome b2 reaches the intermembrane space of mitochondria by transport into the matrix followed by export across the inner membrane. While in the matrix, the protein interacts with hsp60, which arrests its folding prior to export.

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Cytosolic flow induced symmetry breaking in a conceptual polarity model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Important cellular processes, such as cell motility and cell division, are coordinated by cell polarity, which is determined by the non-uniform distribution of certain proteins. Such protein patterns form via an interplay of protein reactions and protein transport.

Transport of proteins across or into the mitochondrial outer membrane

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research, 2010
Mitochondria are surrounded by two biological membranes. The outer mitochondrial membrane contains two major translocators, the TOM40 (TOM) and TOB/SAM complexes for protein translocation across and/or insertion into the outer membrane. The TOM40 complex functions as an entry gate for most mitochondrial proteins, and the TOB/SAM complex as a ...

A model for transport of membrane-associated phototransduction polypeptides in rod and cone photoreceptor inner segments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We discuss putative mechanisms of membrane protein transport in photoreceptors based on Pde6d and Gucy2e/Gucy2f knockout mice. Knockout of the Pde6d gene encoding PrBP/δ, a prenyl binding protein present in the retina at relatively high levels, was shown

P‐glycoprotein modulates the fluidity gradient of the plasma membrane of multidrug resistant CHO cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

Membrane computing with transport and embedded proteins

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 2009
AbstractIn this paper, we look at the expressive power of P systems with proteins embedded on the membranes. The rules governing the evolution of the embedded proteins are inspired from brane calculi. We use some basic operations of brane calculi, namely, exo, endo, bud, mate, pino, wrap in the formalism of membrane computing.

Protein import into chloroplasts: new aspects of a well-known topic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Protein import into plant chloroplasts is a fascinating topic that is being investigated by many research groups. Since the majority of chloroplast proteins are synthesised as precursor proteins in the cytosol, they have to be posttranslationally ...

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.
