Improving the Function of Meningeal Lymphatic Vessels to Promote Brain Edema Absorption after Traumatic Brain Injury

Journal of Neurotrauma, 2022
Brain edema is the most common and fatal complication after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Meningeal lymphatic vessels (MLVs) are the conduits that transport cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and macromolecules to deep extracranial cervical lymph nodes (dCLNs ...

Barenblatt-like approach to transport processes in meningeal lymphatic vessel’s dynamics

The European Physical Journal Plus, 2021
We propose a model, which describes the transfer of a marker inside the lymphatic microvessel by the lymph flow as a consequence of the vessel’s elastic deformation, which produces the pushing pressure jump. The resulting model is close to the equation of the nonlinear diffusion with a localized moving front solution.

Meningeal Lymphatic Vessels are an Important Target for Phototherapy of Brain Diseases

International Conference on Intelligent Pervasive Computing
Discovery of the meningeal lymphatic vessels has opened up new horizons for the development of breakthrough photo-technologies for the treatment of brain diseases based on photostimulation of brain drainage and the removal of toxic metabolites from its ...

Transcriptome changes of meningeal lymphatic vessels in Alzheimer's disease mice treated with non-invasive photobiological modulation

BiOS
Meningeal lymphatic vessels (mLVs) have been shown to be involved in the clearance of amyloid beta (Aβ) and are considered potential therapeutic targets for Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Image Analysis for Describing Meningeal Lymphatic Vessel Morphology

2020
Neuroscientists have recently discovered the existence of meningeal lymphatic vessels in the brain and have shown their importance in preventing cognitive decline. With age, lymphatic vessels narrow, poorly draining cerebrospinal and interstitial fluids, which leads to plaque accumulation, a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease.

Jiawei Xionggui Decoction promotes meningeal lymphatic vessels clearance of β-amyloid by inhibiting arachidonic acid pathway.

Phytomedicine
BACKGROUND Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an aging-associated form of dementia characterized by the pathological deposition of toxic misfolded proteins in the central nervous system (CNS), which is closely related to the clearance impairment of meningeal ...

Vitamin D accelerates the subdural hematoma clearance through improving the meningeal lymphatic vessel function

Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry
Subdural hematoma (SDH) drains into the extracranial lymphatic system through the meningeal lymphatic vessels (mLVs) but the formation of SDH impairs mLVs. Because vitamin D (Vit D) can protect the endothelial cells, we hypothesized that Vit D may enhance the SDH clearance.

Meningeal Lymphatic Vessels Contribute to Microglia Activation and Behavioral Response to Peripheral Inflammation

2022
The recently discovered meningeal lymphatic system represents a potential point of access to the brain from the immune system that remains unexplored in the context of sickness behavior. Publications from our lab have established that meningeal lymphatic vessels facilitate solute clearance from the brain parenchyma and that these vessels deteriorate ...

Evaluation of Glymphatic-Meningeal Lymphatic Vessels with delayed contrast enhanced vessel-wall MRI in Cerebral Infarction

ISMRM Annual Meeting
Motivation: To observe clearance pathways in patients with cerebral infarction. Goal(s): The goal of this study is to identify novel in vivo human findings regarding the clearance pathways in patients with cerebral infarction. Approach: 3D T1 DANTE SPACE imaging was performed 1-5 hours after intravenous injection of gadolinium-based contrast agent ...
