Compensating for Large In-Plane Rotations in Natural Images
Rotation invariance has been studied in the computer vision community primarily in the context of small in-plane rotations. This is usually achieved by building invariant image features.

Gender and sexual orientation differences in cognition across adulthood : age is kinder to women than to men regardless of sexual orientation [PDF]
Despite some evidence of greater age-related deterioration of the brain in males than in females, gender differences in rates of cognitive aging have proved inconsistent.

Hemispheric Specialization For Mental Rotation
A sample of 133 normal subjects, and one commissurotomized subject, were given a "mental-rotation" task, in which they were timed as they decided whether rotated letters, flashed in the left or right visual hemifield, were normal or backward.

Imagery May Arise from Associations Formed through Sensory Experience: A Network of Spiking Neurons Controlling a Robot Learns Visual Sequences in Order to Perform a Mental Rotation Task. [PDF]
Mental imagery occurs "when a representation of the type created during the initial phases of perception is present but the stimulus is not actually being perceived." How does the capability to perform mental imagery arise?

Where are the gender differences? Male priming boosts spatial skills in women [PDF]
The effects of gender stereotype activation by priming on performance in a spatial task were investigated among a mixed adult sample (including students) of 161 men and women (mean age=31.90) from Austria (Europe).

Mental rotation in perspective problems
The present paper demonstrates that mental rotation as used in the processing of disoriented objects (Cooper and Shepard 1973) can also be used as an explanatory concept for the processing of perspective problems in which the task is to imagine how an environment will appear from another vantage point.

Nanomaterial‐Mediated Near‐Infrared Photothermal Neuromodulation for Neurologic Disorders
This review summarizes how near‐infrared light activates photothermal nanomaterials to enable noninvasive neuromodulation with high spatiotemporal precision. It elucidates the underlying mechanisms, explores targeted therapeutic applications for neurological disorders, discusses integration with optogenetics and biosensors, and addresses future ...
