To merge or not to merge: That is the question [PDF]
In this paper we analyze the implementation of socially optimal mergers when the regulator is not informed about all parameters that determine social and private gains from potential mergers. We show that implementation requires a certain degree of agreement between social and private incentives. The most important example where this

When we are constantly and simultaneously bombarded with various types of sensory inputs, how do we make decisions or motor outputs to deal with the world in a meaningful manner? This is a central issue in multisensory integration. One example of such type of processing is eating, as placing food in one's mouth provides taste, olfactory and ...

HCFS: A Density Peak Based Clustering Algorithm Employing A Hierarchical Strategy
Clustering, which explores the visualization and distribution of data, has recently been widely studied. Although current clustering algorithms such as DBSCAN, can detect the arbitrary-shape clusters and work well, the parameters involved in these ...

Viable Syntax: Rethinking Minimalist Architecture
Hauser et al. (2002) suggest that the human language faculty emerged as a genetic innovation in the form of what is called here a ‘keystone factor’—a single, simple, formal mental capability that, interacting with the pre-existing faculties of hominid ...

Visual Maps: To Merge or Not To Merge [PDF]
A recent study of a child born with one cerebral hemisphere has revealed an extreme developmental reorganization of visual cortex. Self-organizing visual maps demonstrate a surprisingly flexible restructuring in response to cortical loss.

Systems Underlying Human and Old World Monkey Communication: One, Two, or Infinite
Using artificially synthesized stimuli, previous research has shown that cotton-top tamarin monkeys easily learn simple AB grammar sequences, but not the more complex AnBn sequences that require hierarchical structure.

Compactness in semantics for merge and fair merge [PDF]
An analysis of the role of compactness in defining the semantics of the merge and fair merge operations is provided. In a suitable context of hyperspaces (sets of subsets) a set is compact iff it is the limit of a sequence of finite sets; hence, compactness generalises bounded nondeterminacy.

On concord and projection [PDF]
In the spirit of the copy theory of movement, I propose that Merge applies only to satisfy Selection or Modification. This proposal differentiates between Agreement (instantiated by an EPP-feature targeting the upper argument selected by the lexical head,
