Partial observability and management of ecological systems
The actual state of ecological systems is rarely known with certainty, but management actions must often be taken regardless of imperfect measurement (partial observability). We highlight applications of partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs) for some common ecological problems in order to clarify structure and operations, approaches ...

Abstract The trophic ecology of European hake (Merluccius merluccius) larvae and early‐juveniles from the Iberian shelf off Galicia (NW Spain) are assessed by means of stable isotopes (SIA) and nutritional condition in conjunction with hydrobiological variations observed during the winter and summer season of 2012.

Assessment of quality loss in frozen squid by‐products. Summary By‐products (viscera, tails, skin, etc.) resulting from Patagonian squid (Doryteuthis gahi) commercialisation were pooled together and stored at −10 and –18 °C for 12 months. During this storage time, 81.1–83.7 and 1.7–2.4 (g 100 g−1) ranges were detected for moisture and lipid values ...

Anisakid Larvae in the Musculature of the Argentinean Hake, Merluccius hubbsi
We report the infection levels of third-stage anisakid larva in the muscle of the Argentinean hake, Merluccius hubbsi, in relation to fish size and location in the musculature. The musculature of 42 hake was separated into hypaxial (ventral) and epiaxial (dorsal) parts and surveyed for nematode larvae.

Species identification of two sympatric hakes by allozymic markers
Samples were collected from hake species Merluccius australis and M. hubbsi in the south west Atlantic Ocean. Enzyme electrophoretic analysis of the eye, liver and muscle revealed 5 out of 33 genetic loci with species-specific allelic frequencies.

Prevalence of Yersinia enterocolitica in Hake (Merluccius hubbsi) Fillets
Yersinia enterocolitica is a human pathogenic bacterium. The prevalence of Y. enterocolitica in refrigerated hake fillets sold for human consumption in retail stores was investigated in order to determine the degree of pathogenicity. Three hundred samples were enriched in 0.067 M phosphate-buffered saline, pH 7.6, with 1% sorbitol and 0.15% biliary ...

Freezing effect on Merluccius hubbsi larvae length [PDF]
Studies on the effect of freezing on the length of Merluccius hubbsi larvae from the southern stock and conversion equations between pre and post preservation measurements were performed.Se estudió el efecto de la congelación sobre la longitud de larvas ...

Effect of nursery ground variability on condition of age 0+ year
This study examined the southern or Patagonian (41°–55° S) stock of Argentine hake Merluccius hubbsi, the more abundant of the two stocks on the Argentinean continental shelf. Pre‐recruits (age 0+ year individuals) of this stock settle and grow in the San Jorge Gulf (45°–47° S, 65° 30′ W), a complex habitat with large spatial variability in ...
