Hydrogels Incorporating Donor–Acceptor Stenhouse Adducts as a Platform for Photoinduced, On‐Off Switchable Release of Small Molecule Cargos

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, Volume 47, Issue 8, 17 April 2026.
Donor–acceptor Stenhouse aDdducts (DASAs) are known for their photoinduced tautomerization, which, when conjugated to block copolymers, can self‐assemble into tuneable polymersomes. These DASA‐polymersomes are being investigated for light‐controlled cargo release in biomedical applications.

Large, Tunable, and Reversible pH Changes by Merocyanine Photoacids

open access: yes, 2021
Molecular photoswitches capable of generating precise pH changes will allow pH-dependent processes to be controlled remotely and noninvasively with light. We introduce a series of new merocyanine photoswitches, which deliver reversible bulk pH changes up

Photo‐Modulated Proton Transport in Merocyanine Metastable‐State Photoacid Based Polymers

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 23, 22 April 2026.
The covalent incorporation of merocyanine metastable‐state photoacid into soft polymers imparts conductivity to otherwise insulating matrices, allowing light‐triggered control of charge and structure, offering a new platform for photo‐responsive, ion‐conducting materials.

Stimuli-responsive materials as sensors and actuators in microfluidic devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The integration of stimuli-responsive materials into microfluidic systems can provide a means for external control over fluid flow and can reduce the overall complexity of microfluidic devices.

Spectroscopic studies on merocyanine photoisomers. IV. Catalytic isomerization photoisomers of merocyanine derivatives in protic solvents.

open access: yesNIPPON KAGAKU KAISHI, 1989
