Identification of functional and diverse circulating cancer‐associated fibroblasts in metastatic castration‐naïve prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...

Poly(I:C)-Induced Mesenchymal Stem Cells Protect the Kidney Against Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury via the TLR3/PI3K Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2021
Objective: To investigate the effect and protective mechanism of mesenchymal stem cell subpopulations on acute kidney injury by establishing a mouse model of renal ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods: Male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into five ...

Effect of undifferentiated versus hepatogenic partially differentiated mesenchymal stem cells on hepatic and cognitive functions in liver cirrhosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Liver cirrhosis is the outcome of chronic liver injury. The current study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effect of undifferentiated mesenchymal stem cells versus in vitro partially differentiated mesenchymal stem cells on liver cirrhosis and ...

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (

CARS and SHG microscopy to follow the collagen production in living human corneal fibroblasts and mesenchymal stem cells in fibrin gel 3D cultures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy is combined with second harmonic generation (SHG) technique in order to follow the early stage of stem cell differentiation within a 3D scaffold. CARS microscopy can detect lipid membranes and droplet compartments in living cells and SHG microscopy enables a strong imaging contrast for molecules ...

Numerical analysis of a mechanotransduction dynamical model reveals homoclinic bifurcations of extracellular matrix mediated oscillations of the mesenchymal stem cell fate [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 113, 146-157, 2019, 2019
We perform one and two-parameter numerical bifurcation analysis of a mechanotransduction model approximating the dynamics of mesenchymal stem cell differentiation into neurons, adipocytes, myocytes and osteoblasts. For our analysis, we use as bifurcation parameters the stiffness of the extracellular matrix and parameters linked with the positive ...

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

Chemotactic Collapse and Mesenchymal Morphogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We study the effect of chemotactic signaling among mesenchymal cells. We show that the particular physiology of the mesenchymal cells allows one-dimensional collapse in contrast to the case of bacteria, and that the mesenchymal morphogenesis represents thus a more complex type of pattern formation than those found in bacterial colonies.

Testosterone Propionate Promotes Proliferation and Viability of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells while Preserving Their Characteristics and Inducing Their Anti-Cancer Efficacy

open access: yesBalkan Medical Journal, 2023
Background: Various studies have reported the effects of testosterone on different cell types, yet bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells’ cellular responses to testosterone remain unknown. Aims: To investigate the effects of testosterone propionate,
