Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1986Superior mesenteric venous occlusion may be difficult to recognize, but is important as it carries a better prognosis than superior mesenteric arterial occlusion, and may be amenable to surgical treatment. Three successful cases treated by thrombectomy have appeared in the literature.
