Anatomical features of leaves of the Busch lily (Lilium buschianum G. Lodd.) in Western Siberia forest zone

open access: yesActa Biologica Sibirica
The Busch lily (Lilium buschianum G.Lodd.) is the least studied of the four species of lilies that grow in Siberia. In the Russian Federation, L. buschianum is listed in the Red Books of the Transbaikal Territory, Amur Region, Jewish Autonomous Region ...

Preparation and Transfection of Populus tomentosa Mesophyll Protoplasts

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2021
Mesophyll protoplasts freshly isolated from leaves are a useful research system in plants. However, cell walls in woody plants contain more pectin, making mesophyll protoplasts isolation difficult in Populus.

Nonaqueous Purification of Maize Mesophyll Chloroplasts [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1988
A nonaqueous fractionation method to obtain highly purified mesophyll chloroplasts from lyophilized leaves of Zea mays L. is described. The levels of several metabolites including pyruvate were determined in the purified mesophyll chloroplast fractions which were prepared from leaves exposed to different light intensities.

A Model of Chloroplast Growth Regulation in Mesophyll Cells [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of Mathematical Biology, 2015
Chloroplasts regulate their growth to optimize photosynthesis. Quantitative data shows that the ratio of total chloroplast area to mesophyll cell area is constant across different cells within a single species, and also across species. Wild-type chloroplasts exhibit little scatter around this trend; highly irregularly-shaped mutant chloroplasts exhibit

Blue Light Receptor PHR2‐Mediated Spectrum Antiviral Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Blue light suppresses RBSDV through the blue‐light receptor ZmPHR2, which interacts with ZmISP in chloroplasts to trigger ROS burst and antiviral defense. The viral effector P6 enhances ZmPHR2–ZmISP interaction, alters their distribution, and suppresses ROS.

Exposure to heat waves and drought improves subsequent leaf heat tolerance for five oak species in southern California

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Given the threats of climate change, we investigated the impact of high temperatures separately and in combination with reduced soil water on leaf heat tolerance for five oaks (Fagaceae) with overlapping ranges in southern California, USA: Quercus agrifolia and Q. chrysolepis (evergreen species), Q. douglasii and Q.

Light stress-induced chloroplast movement and midday depression of photosynthesis in sorghum leaves

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2020
Plants are exposed to high light intensity, high leaf temperatures and high air-to-leaf water vapor pressure deficit (ALVPD) during the day. These environmental stresses cause stomatal closure and photoinhibitory damage, leading to midday depression of ...

Mesophyll Cell Protoplasts of Potato [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1977
Mesophyll cell protoplasts were isolated from potato (Solanum tuberosum L. cv. Russet Burbank) leaves and induced to proliferate in culture. Protoplast division was observed only among preparations isolated from plants previously conditioned under short periods of low intensity illumination. Sustained growth and development of protoplast-derived calli (

Genetic switch to lower nitrogen fertilizer dependency and enhance maize yield

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Transcription factor NCR1 regulates nitrate transporter NRT2.3 and controls root‐to‐shoot nitrogen transport. A superior NCR1 haplotype, lost in modern maize breeding, boosts this process. This discovery enables breeding and biotechnology to develop high‐yielding maize varieties that require less nitrogen fertilizer, reducing agricultural costs and ...

Meselect – A rapid and effective method for the separation of the main leaf tissue types

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2016
Individual tissues of complex eukaryotic organisms have specific gene expression programs that control their functions. Therefore, tissue-specific molecular information is required to increase our understanding of tissue-specific processes.
