Norethynodrel-Mestranol and Thyroid Function
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1966Indices of thyroid function were measured in 10 euthyroid females after equilibration to each of 3 treatments: (a) without medication, (b) while taking 250 μg thyroxine daily, and (c) while taking 250 μg thyroxine and 10 mg norethynodrel-mestranol daily. The thyroidal radioiodine clearance rate decreased from treatment (a) to treatment (b).

Mestranol in Ovulation Suppression
Fertility and Sterility, 1965The effect of ethinyl estradiol 3-methyl ether (EE3-ME) was investigated in 10 patients administered .10 mg. of Mestranol (EE3-ME) for 2 to 6 cycles. 100 mg progesterone was administered on Day 25 to control withdrawal bleeding. 100% Suppression of ovulation was demonstrated. Breakthrough bleeding occurred only in 1 patient during 1 cycle.

Effects of Norethynodrel With Mestranol on the Rabbit Eye
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1969Ocular and systemic effects developed during and after administration of large doses of oral contraceptives in female rabbits. A slight pressure decrease in normal and hereditarily buphthalmic eyes was observed. Remarkable lowering of intraocular pressure was observed in an eye with fluctuating glaucoma secondary to a dislocated lens.

The Accumulation of Mestranol and Ethynyloestradiol Metabolites in the Organism
Xenobiotica, 19721. Following a single intravenous administration of [6,7–3H]ethynyloestradiol and [6,7–3H]mestranol to female rats, 55% of the labelling was excreted in the faeces within 3 weeks, whereas only small amounts of radioactivity (1.5%) were recovered from urine during the first 3 days.

Norethynodrel with Mestranol in the Treatment of Acne
Southern Medical Journal, 1964Norethynodrel with mestranol was administered for periods ranging from 3 through 24 cycles to 40 female patients for treatment of acne of varying degrees of severity. The study was started in August 1961 and carried on through May 1963. Significant improvement was perceptible in 9 patients after 2 cycles of treatment. The remaining patients required

Metabolic effects of mestranol in high dosage
Steroids, 1970Abstract Metabolic effects of mestranol, given in continuous high dosage for 3 or more months, were investigated in 4 postmenopausal women with metastatic breast cancer. Three women improved subjectively; in 1 patient objective remission of disease occurred.

DEMETHYLATION OF MESTRANOL TO ETHINYLOESTRADIOL IN VITRO AND IN VIVO
Acta Endocrinologica, 1972ABSTRACT The present concept is that mestranol must be demethylated to ethinyl-oestradiol in order to have oestrogenic activity. This activation of mestranol has been studied in vivo by means of radiospirometry and in vitro incubations with rat liver microsomes.

Norethynodrel With Mestranol in Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis
JAMA, 1964THE AVAILABILITY of a 19-nor progestational compound mixed with a small amount of estrogenic substance provided the opportunity to study the effect of the pseudopregnant state of the course of rheumatoid arthritis in a selected group of patients. Seventeen patients, 13 females and four males, participated in the blindfold study.

THE EFFECT OF NORETHINDRONE-MESTRANOL ON CERVICAL MUCUS
Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1968Abstract Measurements of spinnbarkheit and amount and viscosity of cervical mucus were made on 15 healthy parous women at midcycle and following the administration of 1 mg. norethindrone and 0.05 mg. mestranol. It was demonstrated that spinnbarkheit was greatly reduced and that the cervical mucus was decreased in amount and viscosity.
