Ketonitrophenols from Mestranol and Related Compounds

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1975
Mestranol (17alpha-ethynylestradiol 3-methyl ether), when placed on a carrier such as powdered silica gel and exposed to the atmosphere, is converted to a yellow product. The compound formed was shown to be 1alpha-ethynyltetrahydro-1beta-hydroxy4 - (2 - hydroxy - 5 - methoxy - 3 - nitrophenethyl) - 7a - methyl-5(4H)-indanone.

Viscosity studies on Mestranol.

Pakistan journal of pharmaceutical sciences, 2006
The viscosity of 1x10(-4) M to 4x10(-4) M solution of Mestranol (synthetic oestrogenic steroidal hormone) in ethanol was measured at 32 degrees, 40 degrees and 50 degrees C in a viscometric bath. The viscosity rates are maximum at 30 degrees C as compared to 40 degrees and 50 degrees C.

COMPARATIVE POTENCY OF ETHINYL ŒSTRADIOL AND MESTRANOL

Medical Journal of Australia, 1970
I was somewhat surprised to see in a recent issue of the Journal (Medical Journal of Australia) a comment regarding "unsubstantiated claims that ethinyl oestradiol is more potent than mestranol." Quite apart from the extensive animal studies on this topic which indicate quite clearly that ethinyl estradiol is in the region of 2 times as active as ...

Clinical Evaluation of Ethinylestrenol and Mestranol as a Contraceptive

Fertility and Sterility, 1968
Ethinylestrenol (2.5 mg) plus mestranol (75 mcg) was clinically evaluated as an oral contraceptive (trade name Lyndiol) by cyclically administering the combination to 625 women for 9898 cycles (1-31 cycles each). Blood tests were performed in 2 groups of 25 patients each at 0 3 6 12 and 18 months to determine if there was any effect on hemoglobin ...

A study on stability of mestranol.

Pakistan journal of pharmaceutical sciences, 2006
Mestranol, a synthetic oestrogcn, is an oral contraceptive given alongwith progestogens. It is light, heat and air sensitive and on uv irradiation new polymeric species of glucosiduronate and sulphate conjugate are formed. The new species fractions of mestranol are separatable over sephadex in column chromatography and characterized by analytical ...
