Hydrogen peroxide metabolism in Trypanosoma brucei

Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1986
Contrary to previous reports in the literature, bloodstream forms of the haemoflagellate protozoan Trypanosoma brucei brucei are not deficient in their ability to metabolize hydrogen peroxide, although they either lack or only possess the normal enzymes for H2O2 detoxification, catalase (EC 1.11.1.6) and glutathione peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.9), at ...

Carbon dioxide metabolism in hydrogen-adapted Scenedesmus

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1963
Abstract 1. 1. Photoreduction of C14O2 by adapted Scenedesmus gives the same carbon fixation pattern as photosynthesis. 2. 2. Photoreduction is susceptible to progressive inhibition by increasing oxygen tension. The inhibition is parallel. Hydrogenase activity is inhibited in a parallel manner by oxygen tension as measured by tritium exchange.

Hydrogen Sulfide Metabolism and Signaling in the Tumor Microenvironment

2020
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), while historically perceived merely as a toxicant, has progressively emerged as a key regulator of numerous processes in mammalian physiology, exerting its signaling function essentially through interaction with and/or modification of proteins, targeting mainly cysteine residues and metal centers. As a gaseous signaling molecule

Hydrogenases and Hydrogen Metabolism in Photosynthetic Prokaryotes

2010
Hydrogen plays important, different roles in a variety of photosynthetic prokaryotes. The variety of different hydrogenases, their catalytic sites, maturation, and genetic organization are reviewed in the context of what is known about these enzymes from model non-photosynthetic organisms.

Metabolism of ethanol hydrogen in mammals

Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1977
Abstract When alcohol is metabolised radical changes take place in the metabolic pattern of the liver. The use ofethanol suitably labeled with hydrogen isotopes has helped in understanding these processes.

Metabolic reprogramming by hydrogen sulfide

Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 2018
Toxic at high levels, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) modulates a range of physiological processes. Enzymes that synthesize H2S are remarkably promiscuous and allosteric regulation controls their reaction specificity. Sulfide is cleared via a mitochondrial oxidation pathway, which generates reactive sulfur intermediates, and couples to the electron transfer ...
