Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Databases of metabolic pathways [PDF]
AbstractStudies of metabolism usually evoke memories of densely written wall charts of metabolic pathways of enormous complexity, such as the IUBMB‐Nicholson metabolic pathways map or the Roche metabolic pathways wall chart. Advances in bioinformatics in the past decade have brought about a revolution in the way the information in metabolic pathways is

AZD9291 has shown promise in targeted cancer therapy but is limited by resistance. In this study, we employed metabolic labeling and LC–MS/MS to profile time‐resolved nascent protein perturbations, allowing dynamic tracking of drug‐responsive proteins. We demonstrated that increased NNMT expression is associated with drug resistance, highlighting NNMT ...

Circadian rhythms in floral scent emission
To successfully recruit pollinators, plants often release attractive floral scents at specific times of day to coincide with pollinator foraging. This timing of scent emission is thought to be evolutionarily beneficial to maximize resource efficiency ...

Restoring a Metabolic Pathway [PDF]
Gluconeogenesis is blocked in a strain of Escherichia coli that is deficient in triosephosphate isomerase, but it was restored by the insertion of a plasmid coding for an L-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate reductase (YghZ). This reductase provides a "bypass" that produces dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) by the consecutive enzyme-catalyzed reduction of L ...

PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.
