Violet Phosphorene Nanosheets Induced the Death of Ovarian Cancer Cells by Modulating the Vitamin B6 Pathway

open access: yesMolecules
Cancer remains a significant global public health concern. Numerous challenges still remain in its treatment. Recently, a novel two-dimensional material—violet phosphorene nanosheets (VPNS)—has shown considerable application potential in the biomedical ...

Structure and flux analysis of metabolic networks

open access: yes, 2009
Conceptual understanding of complex cellular organization can be facilitated through a perspective based on the central dogma of biology1 (Figure 17.1). Accordingly, information coded in a genome is translated into proteins via mRNA.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Comparative Genome Analysis of Piscine Vibrio vulnificus: Virulence-Associated Metabolic Pathways

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Vibriosis caused by Vibrio vulnificus is a major problem in aquatic animals, particularly brown marble groupers (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus). V. vulnificus biotype I has recently been isolated and classified into subgroups SUKU_G1, SUKU_G2, and SUKU_G3 ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Characteristic metabolite profile of 10 colorectal cancer-related bacteria

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
BackgroundTumor metabolomics of colorectal cancer (CRC) is significantly different from normal tissues, due to nutrient deprivation, metabolite accumulation, acidity and hypoxia. Besides, gut microbiota has been confirmed to affect the progression of CRC.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Nontargeted metabolomics analysis of flavonoid-derived Lycium barbarum (goji berry) by-products during probiotic fermentation

open access: yesAnimal Nutriomics
Lycium barbarum by-products (LBPs), including residual branches, leaves and fruits generated during processing, are rich in bioactive compounds exhibiting antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties.

Sensitivity analysis and experimental design of a stiff signal transduction pathway model

open access: yes, 2007
Sensitivity analysis is normally used to analyze how sensitive a system is with respect to the change of parameters or initial conditions and is perhaps best known in systems biology via the formalism of metabolic control analysis [1, 2].
