Epigenetic anticancer agents cause HMGB1 release in vivo

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2018
A systematic search for anticancer agents that may induce the release of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein from cells into the extracellular space has led to the identification of several drugs capable of elevating plasma HMGB1 levels in vivo, in

Targeting Adipose Tissue Function Protects Against Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study explores the role adipose tissue (AT) phenotypes have in determining cardiovascular outcomes in an obesity‐related heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) model. Pharmacological induction of thermogenesis promoted resilience to HFpEF‐induced remodeling of AT and conferred cardioprotection. Surgical and genetic models confirmed

Plasmonic Detection of Glucose in Serum Based on Biocatalytic Shape-Altering of Gold Nanostars

open access: yesBiosensors, 2019
Nanoparticles have been used as signal transducers for optical readouts in biosensors. Optical approaches are cost-effective with easy readout formats for clinical diagnosis. We present a glucose biosensor based on the biocatalytic shape-altering of gold

Icaritin Ameliorates Cisplatin‐Induced Mitochondrial Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Nephrotoxicity and Synergistically Potentiates Its Antitumor Efficacy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, scRNA‐seq and chemoproteomics are integrated to characterize CDDP‐bound proteins at single‐cell resolution in tumor‐bearing mice. Additionally, the research demonstrates that ICA alleviates CDDP‐induced nephrotoxicity while enhancing its chemotherapeutic efficacy.

Obesity in breast cancer patients after oncological treatment. How to conduct a nutritional intervention?

open access: yesNowotwory
Obesity in breast cancer patients is a significant predictor of morbidity as well as adverse treatment outcomes. It correlates with poorer response to treatment, particularly affecting survival length and quality of life.

The activation of PPARγ by 2,4,6-Octatrienoic acid protects human keratinocytes from UVR-induced damages

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Increasing attention is addressed to identify products able to enhance skin photoprotection and to prevent skin carcinogenesis. Several studies have demonstrated that the α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (αMSH), acting on a functional MC1R, provides a ...

Perfluorooctanoic Acid Exposure Causes Macrophage Ammonia Retention and Induces Spontaneous Miscarriages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PFOA exposure induces pregnancy loss by promoting glutaminolysis, which further causes ammonia accumulation in macrophages. Cellular ammonia retention results in damage to mitochondria and lysosomes, which leads to cell death eventually. Impaired lysosomes also decrease the secretion of the Cathepsin B (CTSB), and attenuate macrophage infiltration and ...

Mitochondrial Calcium Uniporter Drives Chemoresistance in Pancreatic Cancer via Glutathione‐Mediated Stemness Maintenance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PDAC has a poor prognosis due to chemoresistance. We revealed that MCU upregulation is associated with chemoresistance and stemness in PDAC. MCU‐mediated Ca2+ influx induced ER stress, activating the PERK‐ATF4/NRF2 axis to enhance PSAT1/SLC711 expression and glutathione synthesis, reducing ROS and maintaining stemness.

The α-melanocyte stimulating hormone/peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-γ pathway down-regulates proliferation in melanoma cell lines

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2017
Background The α-Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (αMSH)/Melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) interaction promotes melanogenesis through the cAMP/PKA pathway.
