Background We previously demonstrated nociceptive discharges to be evoked by mechanical noxious stimulation in the prefrontal cortex (PFC). The nociceptive responses recorded in the PFC are conceivably involved in the affective rather than the sensory ...

Analysis of the Gut Microbiota and Inflammatory Factors in mGluR5-Knockout Mice
IntroductionAccumulating evidence indicates that the glutamatergic system plays an important role in the development of depression. Notably, the antidepressant effect of metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) modulation is inconsistent across studies.

Functional Disconnections of the Pre-Supplementary Motor Area in Patients With Post-Stroke Aphasia and Their Associations With Neurotransmitters. [PDF]
Our findings suggest that functional connections of the preSMA are disrupted in PSA patients, which may be associated with neurotransmitter activity, possibly serving as the predictive markers for recovery of PSA. ABSTRACT Background The pre‐supplementary motor area (preSMA) is a critical region within domain‐general networks involved in speech ...

Long-term levodopa replacement therapy in Parkinson's disease is confounded by abnormal involuntary movements, known as levodopa induced dyskinesia (LID). Dysfunctional glutamatergic neurotransmission has been implicated in the pathogenesis of LID making metabotropic and ionotropic glutamate receptors attractive novel therapeutic targets. The objective

The mysterious middlemen making your vision pop: understanding the function of amacrine cells
Abstract figure legend This review aims to illustrate the diversity and function of amacrine cells in the retina. The diversity of amacrine cell subtypes is depicted based on morphology, stratification and neurotransmitter expression, along with their synaptic connectivity with bipolar and ganglion cells, emphasizing inhibitory and modulatory roles ...

Diverse Subpopulations of Reactive Astrocytes Following Chronic Toxoplasma Infection
Main Points Toxoplasma infection results in distinct astrocyte subpopulations. Chronically labeled reactive astrocytes appear transcriptionally plastic and can regain acute inflammatory responding and naive homeostatic astrocytic gene patterns in the presence of ongoing neuroinflammation.

The top row shows key drivers‐KRAS, c‐Myc and HIF‐1a‐alongside gut and tumor microbiota, all converging on glutamine metabolism in PDAC. At the center, glutamine handling is depicted as the linchpin of tumor growth, biosynthesis and immune modulation. The green panel lists major intervention strategies: DON‐loaded nanoparticles, prodrugs (DRP‐104/JHU ...

Glutamatergic neurotransmission modulates hypoxia-induced hyperventilation but not anapyrexia
The interaction between pulmonary ventilation (V E) and body temperature (Tb) is essential for O2 delivery to match metabolic rate under varying states of metabolic demand.

Wu et al. studied why certain brain areas are more connected than others. They found that areas with similar protein patterns tend to work together more closely. Additionally, they found when one area is affected such as in brain tumours, other areas with similar patterns especially contralateral regions might help.
