Applications of the Metadata Standards [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
AbstractThis chapter addresses issues related to the practical use of the metadata standards, including syntactic interoperability and concrete scenarios from molecular modelling and simulation. It discusses challenges that arise from semantic heterogeneity, wherever multiple interoperability standards are concurrently employed for identical or ...

Modeling Domain Metadata beyond Metadata Standards [PDF]

open access: yesiConference 2016 Proceedings, 2016
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) project to detect gravitational waves represents a complex, distributed scientific endeavor posing specific challenges for reproducibility and data management. The integration of provenance and other metadata information into the workflow stands as one means of addressing such challenges ...

A Class Focused Approach to Research Outputs and Policy Literature Metadata

open access: yesInternational Journal of Digital Curation, 2020
Successful research object sharing requires that systems and users understand the structure, semantics and rules that govern a given research object collection. A number of metadata standards define ontologies and vocabularies for consistent expression

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Clinical performance of the urine‐based TERT promoter AbsoluteQ Digital PCR for non‐invasive detection of bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A urine‐based digital PCR assay targeting two hotspot TERT promoter variants detected bladder cancer with high sensitivity and no false positives in this case–control cohort. The streamlined AbsoluteQ workflow outperformed Sanger sequencing and supports non‐invasive molecular testing for bladder cancer detection.

Spatial and single‐nuclei transcriptomics reveals idiosyncratic and generic patterns in papillary and anaplastic thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Matched spatial transcriptomics and single‐nuclei RNA‐seq were generated for anaplastic and BRAFV600E papillary thyroid cancers revealing generic and tumor‐specific states occurring in cancer cells and in the tumor microenvironment. In this context, cancer dedifferentiation mirrored organoid maturation through ordered thyroid marker gain/loss ...
