Altered fecal microbial and metabolic profiles reveal potential mechanisms underlying anemia in patients with chronic renal failure

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
The gut microbiomes communicate with the kidney and may play a crucial role in the development of anemia in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). However, the alterations in microbiota and their association with functional metabolites remain unclear.

Rumen Mycobiome Thiamine Metabolism Contributes to Subacute Rumen Acidosis Tolerance in Goats Through Enhancing Epithelial Cell Proliferation via IGFBP2/IGF1 Axis Activation

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the mechanism underlying the differences between SARA‐susceptible and SARA‐tolerant dairy goats fed a high‐concentrate diet. SARA‐susceptible goats (HCS) exhibit low rumen pH and metabolic decline, characterized by epithelial inflammation.

Bioengineered Isoflavone–Probiotic Functional Foods for Sustainable Modulation of Metabolic and Reproductive Health in PCOS

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, EarlyView.
Synergistic isoflavone‐probiotic action modulated metabolic, microbial and ovarian pathway ABSTRACT Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent metabolic–endocrine disorder characterized by insulin resistance, hyperandrogenism, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and ovarian dysfunction, with growing evidence implicating gut microbiota ...

Ten common issues with reference sequence databases and how to mitigate them

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioinformatics
Metagenomic sequencing has revolutionized our understanding of microbiology. While metagenomic tools and approaches have been extensively evaluated and benchmarked, far less attention has been given to the reference sequence database used in metagenomic ...

Current Advancements of Probiotic Foods and Their Role in Sustainable Food Security

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Probiotic foods have evolved from traditional fermented products to scientifically validated functional foods, defined by the FAO and WHO as live microorganism that confer a health benefit on the host when administered in adequate amounts, with effects being strain, does and end point specific.

Whipworm infection remodels the gut microbiome ecosystem and compromises intestinal homeostasis in elderly patients revealed by multi-omics analyses

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
IntroductionWhipworm (Trichuris trichiura) coexists with symbiotic microbiota in the gastrointestinal ecosystem. There is a paucity of data on the association between whipworm infection and the gut microbiota composition in elderly individuals.

Standardized Protocol for Isolation and Cryopreservation of Cultivable Endophytes From Fresh and Dried Citrus aurantium Peels

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
A protocol for converting Citrus aurantium peel—from both fresh fruit and dried Zhike—into a curated endophytic microbial library through standardized surface sterilization, tissue homogenization, and multi‐medium culturing, followed by 16S/ITS‐based identification and −80°C cryopreservation, enabling reproducible exploration of citrus peel microbiota ...

Identification and characterization of a novel plaque-invisible lytic single-stranded RNA phage

open access: yesJournal of Virology
The RNA phages offer promising applications in biotechnology, including vaccine development and drug delivery. However, their potential remains underexplored due to the limited number of known RNA phages, partly because conventional methods fail to ...

Seasonal drivers of plant–soil–microbial community structure and functions in Western Himalayan grasslands, Pakistan

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Plant species richness was greater in summer in both alpine and subalpine grassland ecosystems. Soil moisture demonstrates significant positive correlations with soil organic carbon and total nitrogen across seasonal periods. Microbial α‐diversity peaks during summer but maintains functional stability across seasons.
