PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

Metal complexes as DNA intercalators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
DNA has a strong affinity for many heterocyclic aromatic dyes, such as acridine and its derivatives. Lerman in 1961 first proposed intercalation as the source of this affinity, and this mode of DNA binding has since attracted considerable research ...

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

A designed metal-organic framework based on a metal-organic polyhedron [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography, 2008
A C(3) symmetric ligand with three 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate units has been used to construct a metal-organic framework with a (3,24)-connected network topology, where the nanometre-sized metal-organic cuboctahedra (MOCs) have been incorporated solely into a cubic close packing (CCP) arrangement, which led to superoctahedral and supertetrahedral ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Influence of Exposure to Environment on Degradation of a Friction Stir Welded Aluminum Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2020
We carried out a comparative study on both the stress corrosion response and corrosion damage characteristics of aluminum alloy 2219, both the base material and a friction stir welding (FSW) counterpart upon exposure to exfoliation corrosion (EXCO ...

Base-Catalyzed Dehydrogenative Coupling of Formate Anions to Oxalates: Effect of Alkali Metal Cations

open access: yes, 2022
Herein, the influence of group 1 and 2 metal cations on base-catalyzed dehydrogenative coupling of formate to form oxalate is reported. Treatment of sodium formate with a various types of bases (group 1 and 2 metal carbonates or metal hydroxides ...
