A novel embedded voltage‐clamped circuit for multilevel modular converters submodule to suppress very fast transient overvoltage

open access: yesHigh Voltage
The submodule in multilevel modular converters experiences a very fast transient overvoltage (VFTO) during switch operation of gas‐insulated switchgear, which also results in overvoltage on power devices, such as thyristors and insulated gate bipolar ...

Loss and Thermal Modeling of Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV) Under Standard Current Surge Mission Profile [PDF]

open access: yes2019 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2019
Because of their crucial role in protecting power electronic equipment against over-voltages and transients, metal oxide varistors (MOV) represent a key component of the electrical system. Although improper heat dissipation and internal temperature rises can lead to a significant decrease in performance or even to a wear-out failure of the MOV, there ...

Comparison of Surge Voltage Reduction and Economic Efficiency of DC SSCBs According to MOV and RCD Snubber Combination

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Industrial Electronics Society
Metal oxide varistor (MOV) is a nonlinear resistive element whose resistance decreases rapidly when the applied voltage exceeds a threshold value. A dc solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) uses MOVs or MOV with resistor-capacitor-diode (RCD) snubber ...

Mathematical Model Predicting the Heat and Power Dissipated in an Electro-Conductive Contact in a Hybrid Woven Fabric

open access: yesAUTEX Research Journal, 2020
Electro-conductive (EC) yarns can be woven into a hybrid fabric to enable electrical current to flow through the fabric from one component A to another component B. These hybrid fabrics form the bases of woven e-textiles.

Simulation study of integrated‐gate‐commutated‐thyristor based superconducting hybrid direct current circuit breaker

open access: yesHigh Voltage, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 1275-1284, December 2023., 2023
Abstract With the development of a distributed generation, direct current (DC) load and energy‐storage equipment, voltage‐source‐converter‐based medium‐voltage DC systems (VSC‐MVDC) have attracted more attention due to its low power consumption, high reliability, independent power control and so on.

Varistor coupling method and recommendation parameters for combination wave test

open access: yesIET Science, Measurement &Technology, Volume 17, Issue 7, Page 277-286, September 2023., 2023
Low‐voltage varistors are adopted here in the OrCAD/PSpice environment to analyze the influence of varistor coupling on the output characteristic of the combination wave generator (CWG). Experiments have also been conducted here, and our simulation results are found to match the experimental ones well.

Influence of UHV GIL access on transient recovery voltage of circuit breaker

open access: yes电力工程技术, 2022
The access of ultra high voltage (UHV) gas-insulated transmission line (GIL) affects both the transient recovery voltage (TRV) amplitude and the rate of rise of TRV (RRRV) of circuit breakers, which may endanger the breaking capacity of circuit breakers ...

New Fault-Location Algorithm for Series-Compensated Double-Circuit Transmission Line

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
This paper proposes a new fault location algorithm to accurately locate the faults of series-compensated double-circuit transmission line and improve the stability of power system operation, which is not affected by fault types. The proposed algorithm is
