Metalloprotein‐based MRI probes [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2013
Metalloproteins have long been recognized as key determinants of endogenous contrast in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of biological subjects. More recently, both natural and engineered metalloproteins have been harnessed as biotechnological tools to probe gene expression, enzyme activity, and analyte concentrations by MRI.

Bioinformatics of Metalloproteins and Metalloproteomes [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Trace metals are inorganic elements that are required for all organisms in very low quantities. They serve as cofactors and activators of metalloproteins involved in a variety of key cellular processes.

Improving Data Representation of Metalloproteins in the Protein Data Bank [PDF]

open access: yesStructural Dynamics
The Protein Data Bank (PDB) was established in 1971 as the first open-access digital data resource in biology, initially comprising just seven X- ray crystal structures of proteins.

Methanogenesis marker 16 metalloprotein is the primary coenzyme M synthase in Methanosarcina acetivorans. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics
2-mercaptoethanesulfonate (Coenzyme M, CoM) is an organic sulfur-containing cofactor used for hydrocarbon metabolism in archaea and bacteria. In archaea, CoM serves as an alkyl group carrier for enzymes belonging to the alkyl-CoM reductase family ...

Investigation of the Ferredoxin’s Influence on the Anaerobic and Aerobic, Enzymatic H2 Production

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Ferredoxins are metalloproteins that deliver electrons to several redox partners, including [FeFe] hydrogenases that are potentially a component of biological H2 production technologies.

Copper Cytotoxicity: Cellular Casualties of Noncognate Coordination Chemistry

open access: yesmBio, 2022
Copper (Cu) is an essential micronutrient for cells, but in excess it is cytotoxic. How Cu is cytotoxic is the subject of recent work by L. Zuily, N.

Structure of the membrane-bound formate hydrogenlyase complex from Escherichia coli

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
New cryo-EM structures of the formate hydrogenlyase complex from the model bacterium E. coli clarify how electrons and protons move through the complex and are combined to make H2 gas.

Combinatorial targeting of G‐protein‐coupled bile acid receptor 1 and cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 reveals a mechanistic role for bile acids and leukotrienes in drug‐induced liver injury

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
CHIN117 is a dual cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CYSLTR1) antagonist and G‐protein‐coupled bile acid receptor 1 (GPBAR1) agonist. In the liver, GPBAR1 and CYSLTR1 are coexpressed by liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs), HSCs, circulating monocytes/macrophages, and liver resident macrophages (Kupffer cells).
