Meeting in the middle before parting: metaphase-to-anaphase [Mitosis movie series; 2]

open access: yes, 2008
Presents mitotic PtK1 cell microinjected with X-rhodamine-labeled tubulin and Alexa 488-labeled CENP-F antibodies to fluorescently label kinetochore fibers (red) and kinetochores/spindle poles (green), respectively.

A CCNA1 Missense Variant Associated With Chromatid Non‐Disjunction in Abnormal‐Headed Sperm and Male Infertility

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Macrozoospermia is a rare form of teratozoospermia characterized by tetraploids, large‐headed spermatozoa with multiple flagella, usually caused by bi‐allelic AURKC mutations. The etiology of atypical phenotypes with a lower proportion of large headed spermatozoa and single flagella however often remains unresolved.

LIC2 depletion leads to prolonged metaphase arrest.

open access: yes, 2016
A) Still images from a movie featuring four different representative siRNA treated Hela cells (control, LIC2 and LIC 1 + 2) showing prolonged arrest in metaphase, followed by delayed anaphase onset (LIC2 > 80 min) or cell death (LIC2 > 4 hrs). B) Average

Chromosomal and immune dysregulation underlying granular mitosis in glioblastoma

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Granular mitosis (GM) morphology is linked to PI3K/PTEN pathway alterations, chromosomal disorganization, and impaired innate immunity. Cells exhibiting GM morphology are associated with localized immune responses within their immediate spatial microenvironment.

Oxidative Stress Drives Cell Cycle Stalling, Apoptosis and Metabolic Suppression in Cystatin B Deficient EPM1 Patient iPSCs

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
CSTB deficient EPM1 iPS cells manifest increased lysosomal activity and oxidative stress, which lead to DNA damage, cell cycle defects and increased apoptosis. As a protective response, metabolism is suppressed. Image created by BioRender https://BioRender.com/t44oc6h.

Venous Thromboembolism in Hematologic Malignancies: Incidence, Risk Factors, and the Role of Direct Oral Anticoagulants

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thrombotic events, particularly venous thromboembolism (VTE), are a significant source of morbidity and mortality among patients with hematologic malignancies. These patients face unique challenges due to treatment‐related complications such as thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, and heightened bleeding risk.

The PSI Automatic Metaphase Finder

open access: yesJournal of Radiation Research, 1992
The Genetiscanner automatic metaphase finder (AMF) instrument manufactured by Perceptive Scientific Instruments, Inc. is capable of searching a microscope slide and generating a list of the stage coordinates of the metaphases within the 20 mm x 40 mm search area in ten minutes.

Phosphorylation of BigH1 regulates its expression pattern and promotes embryonic development

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Phosphorylation is a key regulator of the linker histone variant BigH1 during Drosophila embryogenesis. We reveal that N‐terminal phosphorylation promotes the timely removal of BigH1 from chromatin. In contrast, C‐terminal phosphorylation supports early nuclear divisions and embryonic viability.

Metaphase finding with deep convolutional neural networks

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Finding analyzable metaphase chromosome images is an essential step in karyotyping which is a common task for clinicians to diagnose cancers and genetic disorders precisely. This step is tedious and time-consuming.
