Interaction of liver methionine adenosyltransferase with hydroxyl radical
The FASEB Journal, 1997Liver methionine adenosyltransferase (MAT) plays a critical role in the metabolism of methionine converting this amino acid, in the presence of ATP, into S‐adenosylmethionine. Here we report that hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ), via generation of hydroxyl ...

Purification and properties of rat lens methionine adenosyltransferase
Experimental Eye Research, 1986Methionine adenosyltransferase (MAT) has been partially purified from rat lenses using a combination of ammonium sulfate fractionation and hydrophobic chromatography on phenyl Sepharose columns. The partially purified enzyme resembles purified Type II MAT from non-hepatic tissues.

Methionine adenosyltransferase in man: Evidence for multiple forms
Biochemical Medicine, 1979Abstract Optimum conditions are presented for the assay of methionine adenosyltransferase (ATP: l -methionine S -adenosyltransferase, EC 2.5.1.6) in human erythrocytes and in human cultured fibroblasts and long-term lymphoid cell lines. The enzymes are similar in having an acidic pH optimum (5.2–5.7) and in being inhibited by more than 10 m m Mg 2+

Methionine Adenosyltransferase Deficiency: New Enzymatic Defect Associated with Hypermethioninemia
Science, 1974A specific deficiency of methionine adenosyltransferase has been demonstrated in the liver of an infant with hypermethioninemia. Since the enzymatic activity was below that in fetal liver and the metabolic abnormality has persisted (the infant now being 1 year of age), there is probably a genetic mutation.
