Oxaziridines: Versatile Reagents in Modern Organic Synthesis

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
Being capable of transferring an O atom and N‐group/atom, oxaziridines are considered multitasking agents. These are employed for diverse organic transformations, such as epoxidation of olefins, α‐ and γ‐hydroxylation/amination of carbonyl compounds, oxidation of sulfides, [3+2]cycloaddition with unsaturated systems.

In Salmonella Typhimurium and Bacillus subtilis, Nucleoid-Associated HU Proteins Are N-Terminally Acetylated

open access: yesPathogens
Here we report that the Salmonella Typhimurium NatB (SeNatB) protein N-terminal acetyltransferase acetylated the N-terminal methionine of the nucleoid-associated HU proteins.

Energetic dysregulations in psychotic disorders: Targets for new therapeutics

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The present review synthesizes literature documenting aberrant energy production and use, specifically related to mitochondrial and redox dysregulation, in psychotic disorders. Findings from different levels of investigation—genetic, cellular, and in vivo imaging—converge on aberrant energy metabolism as a hallmark of psychotic disorders.

Methionine Sulfoxide Reduction and Assimilation in Escherichia coli: New Role for the Biotin Sulfoxide Reductase BisC

open access: yes, 2004
International audienceABSTRACT Methionine ranks among the amino acids most sensitive to oxidation, which converts it to a racemic mixture of methionine- S -sulfoxide (Met-S-SO) and methionine- R -sulfoxide (Met-R-SO).

Structure and electron-transfer pathway of the human methionine sulfoxide reductase MsrB3

open access: yes, 2020
Introduction: The post-translational oxidation of methionine to methionine sulfoxide is a reversible process, enabling repair of oxidative damage to proteins and the use of sulfoxidation as a regulatory switch.

Evolutionary Conserved and Divergent Responses to Copper Zinc Superoxide Dismutase Inhibition in Plants

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT After an initial evolution in a reducing environment, life got successively challenged by reactive oxygen species (ROS), especially during the great oxidation event (GOE) that followed the development of photosynthesis. Therefore, ROS are deeply intertwined into the physiological, morphological and transcriptional responses of most present‐day

Methionine Sulfoxide Reduction in Mammals: Characterization of Methionine-\u3ci\u3eR\u3c/i\u3e-Sulfoxide Reductases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Methionine residues in proteins are susceptible to oxidation by reactive oxygen species, but can be repaired via reduction of the resulting methionine sulfoxides by methionine-S-sulfoxide reductase (MsrA) and methionine-R-sulfoxide reductase (MsrB ...

Impact of Selenium on Biomarkers and Clinical Aspects Related to Ageing. A Review

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2021
Selenium (Se) is an essential dietary trace element that plays an important role in the prevention of inflammation, cardiovascular diseases, infections, and cancer. Selenoproteins contain selenocysteine in the active center and include, i.a., the enzymes

Regeneration mechanisms of Arabidopsis thaliana methionine sulfoxide reductases B by glutaredoxins and thioredoxins. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Biol Chem, 2009
Methionine oxidation leads to the formation of S- and R-diastereomers of methionine sulfoxide (MetSO), which are reduced back to methionine by methionine sulfoxide reductases (MSRs) A and B, respectively.MSRBs are classified in two groups depending on ...

Multiplexed Nanosensors for Real‐Time Monitoring of VOC‐Mediated Signalling Response in Plants

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To enhance crop performance, intercropping strategies leverage volatile organic compound (VOC)‐driven interactions with companion plants that constitutively emit VOCs. Despite the agricultural importance, the mechanisms and kinetics of VOC‐mediated sensory transduction in receiver plants eavesdropping on neighbouring non‐kin emitters remain ...
