The Quinoline Photoremovable Group (PPG) Platform—A Medicinal Chemist's Approach for Photocage Development and Applications

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Photoremovable protecting groups (PPGs) offer a straightforward solution for the temporary inactivation of biologically active substrates and their subsequent controlled release by light irradiation. Their relatively easy design and mode of application have made them useful tools for studying dynamic biological processes in vitro and in vivo ...

Metabolite Screening From Pinus pinea Needles Reveals (+)‐Isocupressic Acid as a Key Phytotoxin for Weed Management

open access: yesPhytochemical Analysis, EarlyView.
This study explores the phytotoxicity of Pinus pinea needle extracts and metabolites to evaluate their potential for controlling dicotyledonous weeds. A strategy based on GC–MS, NMR, and optical methods revealed an array of aromatic compounds which are of crucial interest for phytochemical research. Hence, a bio‐guided purification led to the isolation

Monoterpenoids from Artemisia austriaca essential oil disrupt hormone‐mediated reserve mobilization to suppress Avena fatua seed germination

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Terpenoid compounds from the essential oil of Artemisia austriaca, particularly camphor and 1,8‐cineole, infiltrate seed tissues and impede the germination of Avena fatua (wild oat) seeds by disrupting gibberellic acid and abscisic acid levels, as well as inhibiting critical enzymes involved in starch, lipid and protein metabolism.

Recent progress of heterocycle ring‐opening (co)polymerization for the synthesis of sequence‐controlled block polyesters and polycarbonates

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
Block copolymers are fundamental for the development of smart molecules. Aliphatic polyesters and polycarbonates have received attention as heteroatom‐containing polymers that are biodegradable and biocompatible. Block polymers from polyesters and polycarbonates have the ability to form smart molecules. This review presents the heterocycle monomer ring‐

Resolving taxa in a challenging orchid species complex using evidence from phylogenetics, morphometrics and floral scent chemistry

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract Species can be difficult to circumscribe using morphology alone, and additional data can thus be useful for resolving challenging species complexes. Here we provide a case study of a South African orchid species complex which we resolved by analysing morphology, floral scent chemistry and molecular data.

More than fruity scents: Pollination biology, scent, and spectral reflectance of Annonaceae species

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, EarlyView.
We characterised the floral visual and olfactory cues of numerous Annonaceae species and reported their pollinators. We further assessed the olfactory space of most Annonaceae species available in the literature. Abstract The family Annonaceae possesses a broad array of floral phenotypes and pollination specializations, and are important in the plant ...
