Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Technical–Economic Analyses of Electric Energy Generation by Biogas from Anaerobic Digestion of Sewage Sludge from an Aerobic Reactor with the Addition of Charcoal

open access: yesMethane
This study aimed to obtain the energy recovery potential of the biogas produced from anaerobic digestion (AD) of the sludge from a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), including the use of biochar as an additive for substrate co-digestion and catalyst for ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Stearic Acid/Layered Double Hydroxides Composite Thin Films Deposited by Combined Laser Techniques

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
We report on the investigation of stearic acid-layered double hydroxide (LDH) composite films, with controlled wettability capabilities, deposited by a combined pulsed laser deposition (PLD)-matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation (MAPLE) system.

Solvability of curves on surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this article, we study subloci of solvable curves in $\mathcal{M}_g$ which are contained in either a K3-surface or a quadric or a cubic surface. We give a bound on the dimension of such subloci. In the case of complete intersection genus $g$ curves in

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Fe-Mg solid solution of sursassite, (Fe,Mg)4(Mg,Fe,Al)2Al4[Si6O21/(OH)7]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mineralogy, 2002
Sursassites (Fe,Mg) 4 (Mg,Al,Fe) 2 Al 4 [Si 6 O 21 / (OH) 7 ] have been synthesized along the Mg-Fe join at 4.0 - 5.0 GPa, 600 - 650 °C and at f 02 defined by the iron-wuestite buffer using gels as starting materials. (Fe,Mg)-sursassites have been investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, and electron microprobe.

Pliocene Te Aute limestones, New Zealand: Expanding concepts for cool-water shelf carbonates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Acceptance of a spectrum of warm- through cold-water shallow-marine carbonate facies has become of fundamental importance for correctly interpreting the origin and significance of all ancient platform limestones.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
