Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Pathway to oxide photovoltaics via band-structure engineering of SnO
The prospects of scaling current photovoltaic technologies to terawatt levels remain uncertain. All-oxide photovoltaics could open rapidly scalable manufacturing routes, if only oxide materials with suitable electronic and optical properties were ...

The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

Through direct application of porous transport layer (PTL) on the bipolar plate (BPP) with thermal spraying, the interfacial contact resistance is improved. With the cold gas sprayed BPP–PTL coating system, a proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell with a cell voltage of Ucell = 1.9 V can be operated up to i = 2.5 A/cm2 in a dynamic mode ...

Twin roll casting and melt conditioned twin-roll casting of magnesium alloys [PDF]
Recently, BCAST at Brunel University has developed a MCAST (melt conditioning by advanced shear technology) process for conditioning liquid metal at temperature either above or bellow the alloy liquidus using a high shear twin-screw mechanism.

EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Research progress in effects of alloying element Sn on microstructures and properties of Mg alloys
Pure Mg has advantages of low density, good shock absorption performance and good biocompatibility, but its strength is low. Alloying is an important method to modify microstructure and properties of pure Mg.

Microstructure refinement mechanism upon deeply undercooled solidification of a Ni88Cu6Co6 alloy
Applying molten glass purification and cyclic superheat methods, deep undercooling treatment was performed on a Ni88Cu6Co6 alloy system. The alloy was undercooled to an undercooling as high as 300 K and the corresponding microstructure characteristics ...
