A Novel Mg–CaMgSn Master Alloy for Grain Refinement in Mg–Al-Based Alloys [PDF]
A novel grain refinement method using a CaMgSn intermetallic phase was investigated via adding a Mg–CaMgSn master alloy to an AZ31 magnesium alloy. The results showed a remarkable grain refinement effect in as-cast AZ31, with the average grain size reduced from approximately 260–93 μm after adding 0.45 wt.% CaMgSn particles.

Mg-Alloys for Forging Applications—A Review [PDF]
Interest in magnesium alloys and their applications has risen in recent years. This trend is mainly evident in casting applications, but wrought alloys are also increasingly coming into focus. Among the most common forming processes, forging is a promising candidate for the industrial production of magnesium wrought products. This review is intended to

Crystallography of precipitates in Mg alloys
Crystallography of precipitates in Mg alloys is indispensable to explain and predict alloy microstructures and properties. In order to obtain a global understanding of diversified experimental results, a general theory of singular interface is introduced, which provides the physical base and calculation methodology for interpreting precipitate ...

Dealloying of Cu-Mg-Ca Alloys [PDF]
The chemical dealloying of Cu-Mg-Ca alloys in free corrosion conditions was investigated for different alloy compositions and different leaching solutions. For some of the precursor alloys, a continuous, pure fcc copper with nanoporous structure can be obtained by dealloying in 0.04 M H2SO4 solution.

Twinning-mediated formability in Mg alloys [PDF]
AbstractMg alloys are promising candidates for automotive applications due to their low density and high specific strength. However, their widespread applications have not been realized mainly because of poor formability at room temperature, arising from limited number of active deformation systems and strong basal texture.

Investigation on nonequilibrium crystallization of highly undercooled Cu–Ni–Co alloys
Deep undercooling rapid solidification experiments of Cu–Ni–Co alloys were carried out using the molten glass purification cycle superheat method. 130 K, 177 K and 277 K undercooling degrees were obtained and analysed for Cu55Ni43Co2 alloy.

Quasicrystal-reinforced Mg alloys
The formation of the icosahedral phase (I-phase) as a secondary solidification phase in Mg-Zn-Y and Mg-Zn-Al base systems provides useful advantages in designing high performance wrought magnesium alloys. The strengthening in two-phase composites (I-phase + α-Mg) can be explained by dispersion hardening due to the presence of I-phase particles and by ...
