Effect of Al addition on microstructure of AZ91D [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Casting is a net shape or near net shape forming process so work-hardening will not be applicable for improving properties of magnesium cast alloys.

Grain refinement efficiency of a new oxide-containing master alloy for aluminium casting alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this study, grain refinement efficiency of a new oxide master alloy based on MgAl2O4 was demonstrated on an A357 alloy. The grain size of the reference alloy was reduced by 50-60% with the addition of the master alloy and introduction of ultrasonic ...

Research progress on corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys in aspect of element solid-solution and precipitation

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2021
The solid solution and precipitations of alloying elements can change the chemical potential of the primary phase and the species of the second phase, which can significantly affect the micro-galvanic corrosion behaviors of magnesium alloys.

Modelling of liquid metal flow and oxide film defects in filling of aluminium alloy castings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The liquid metal flow behaviours in different runner system designs have important effects on the mechanical strength of aluminium alloy castings. In this paper, a new model has been developed which is a two-dimensional program using a finite difference ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Research progress in experimental and integrated calculations of high modulus magnesium based materials

open access: yesJournal of Aeronautical Materials
Magnesium alloy is widely used in the aerospace field due to its low density, high specific strength, high damping and good thermal conductivity. However, its low elastic modulus limits its reliable application in large thin-walled components. Aiming at the

Grain refinement driven by recrystallization after annealing nonequilibrium solidification microstructure of a deeply undercooled nickel alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Traditional recrystallization technology is based on recrystallization annealing after artificial plastic deformation. In the present study, we found that rapid solidification through deep undercooling can induce substantial plastic deformation and ...

Possibilities and Limitations of Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy of Mg and Mg Alloys [PDF]

open access: yesCorrosion, 2014
Magnesium (Mg) and its alloys undergo corrosion at high rates in aqueous electrolytes of essentially any concentration, releasing copious amounts of hydrogen (H2) into the electrolyte, thereby making conventional scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) measurements difficult upon Mg.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
