Formation kinetics and cation inversion in mechanically activated MgAl2O4 spinel ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Solid-state mechanical activation of MgO and α-Al2O3 powders was used to produce MgAl2O4. The cation site occupancy in the resulting MgAl2O4 spinel was investigated using different methods. Differential thermal analysis and thermal gravimetry showed that

Magnesite-rich mining tailings as a raw material for refractory ceramics – microstructural and thermal analysis; pp. 145–149 [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, 2019
In this paper, we present results of a study about the possibilities of utilizing talc ore mining tailings as a refractory raw material aiming at magnesium aluminate MgAl2O4 spinel composition.

Analyses of the Deformability and Chemistry of Non‐Metallic Inclusions in QT Steels With Increased Recycling‐Induced Tramp Element Content

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This work uses high‐temperature dilatometry to examine how the tramp elements Cu, Ni, and Sn affect the deformability of non‐metallic inclusions and matrix in quench‐and‐temper steel. Mg‐bearing inclusions deform less than Mg‐free ones. Copper lowers formability. Nickel increases deformability.

New Magnetite Reference Material for SIMS δ18O Measurements and a Study of Precision and Accuracy Due to Crystal Orientation Effects

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, Volume 50, Issue 2, Page 391-406, June 2026.
Key Points A new magnetite reference material (PF21mt) is available for δ18O measurements by SIMS. Reproducibility of measurement results in two laboratories suggest orientation bias of ±2‰ (2s) at 20 keV. Repeatability improves to ±1‰ (2s) when using a 13 keV protocol, suggesting reduced orientation bias. In situ isotope ratio measurements provide the

Structural and Microstructural Study on the Arc-Plasma Synthesized (APS) FeAl2O4–MgAl2O4 Transitional Refractory Compound

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2017
In this work, a pleonastic compound, a compound with a composition between hercynite and spinel sensu stricto FeAl2O4–MgAl2O4, was synthesized by a non-conventional method of arc-plasma synthesis (APS).

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 10, 20 May 2026.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Large magnetocapacitance beyond 420% in epitaxial magnetic tunnel junctions with an MgAl2O4 barrier

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Magnetocapacitance (MC) effect has been observed in systems where both symmetries of time-reversal and space-inversion are broken, for examples, in multiferroic materials and spintronic devices.

V centers in MgAl2O4 spinels.

open access: yesPhysical review. B, Condensed matter, 1991
V centers induced by ionizing irradiation at 80 or 300 K in single-crystal and polycrystalline MgAl2O4 samples have been studied by use of electron paramagnetic resonance and optical absorption. Vt- and Vo2- centers, as a result of hole trapping at tetrahedral and octahedral cation vacancies, respectively, have been found to be responsible for two EPR ...
