The intensity contrast of solar granulation: comparing Hinode SP results with MHD simulations [PDF]
The contrast of granulation is an important quantity characterizing solar surface convection. We compare the intensity contrast at 630 nm, observed using the Spectro-Polarimeter (SP) aboard the Hinode satellite, with the 3D radiative MHD simulations of V{

Forced current sheet structure, formation and evolution: application to magnetic reconnection in the magnetosphere [PDF]
By means of a simulation model, the earlier predicted nonlinear kinetic structure, a Forced Kinetic Current Sheet (FKCS), with extremely anisotropic ion distributions, is shown to appear as a result of a fast nonlinear process of transition from a ...

MHD Simulations of Penumbra Fine Structure
We present results of numerical 3D MHD simulations with radiative energy transfer of fine structure in a small sunspot of about 4 Mm width. The simulations show the development of filamentary structures and flow patterns that are, except for the lengths of the filaments, very similar to those observed.

MHD simulations of quadrupolar paleomagnetospheres [PDF]
During geomagnetic polarity transitions the Earth's internal magnetic field is expected to deviate significantly from the dipolar configuration observed today, and higher‐order multipoles can become important. Their effects on the magnetosphere are investigated in this study by means of MHD simulations.

We present the first results of the hybrid data-driven magnetofrictional (MF) and data-constrained magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of solar active region NOAA 11158, which produced an X-class flare and coronal mass ejection on 2011 February 15 ...

We use the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) with embedded particle‐in‐cell model (MHD‐EPIC) to study the Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) dayside kinetic processes challenge event at 01:50–03:00 UT on 18 November 2015, when the magnetosphere was driven by a ...

Comparison of the thin flux tube approximation with 3D MHD simulations
The structure and dynamics of small vertical photospheric magnetic flux concentrations has been often treated in the framework of an approximation based upon a low-order truncation of the Taylor expansions of all quantities in the horizontal direction ...

Non-locality of Hydrodynamic and Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence
We compare non-locality of interactions between different scales in hydrodynamic (HD) turbulence and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence in a strongly magnetized medium.

The role of the Hall effect in the global structure and dynamics of planetary magnetospheres: Ganymede as a case study [PDF]
We present high resolution Hall MHD simulations of Ganymede's magnetosphere demonstrating that Hall electric fields in ion-scale magnetic reconnection layers have significant global effects not captured in resistive MHD simulations. Consistent with local
