Coxsackievirus B3 myocarditis in C3H/HeJ mice: Description of an inbred model and the effect of exercise on virulence

European Journal of Epidemiology, 1989
The effect of forced exercise on the development of coxsackievirus B3 myocarditis in inbred C3H/HeJ mice was studied. Four groups of mice (30 per group) were formed: infected-exercised (Group I); infected-unexercised (Group II); uninfected-exercised (Group III); and uninfected-unexercised (Group IV). Infected mice were inoculated intraperitoneally with

Effects of cross-fostering on avoidance learning and freezing behavior of DBA2J and C3H/He inbred mice

Life Sciences, 1968
Abstract The effects of cross-fostering were assessed on two inbred strains of mice (DBA2J and C3H/He) characterized by sharp discrepancies in learning curves and memory patterns when trained in a shuttle-box. The data show that modifications of preweaning environment affect the emotional behavior while variations of learning patterns are only due to

Differential Effects of Fluoride During Osteoblasts Mineralization in C57BL/6J and C3H/HeJ Inbred Strains of Mice

Biological Trace Element Research, 2014
The behavior of fluoride ions in biological systems has advantages and problems. On one hand, fluoride could be a mitogenic stimulus for osteoblasts. However, high concentrations of this element can cause apoptosis in rat and mouse osteoblasts. Toward an understanding of this effect, we examined the role of sodium fluoride (NaF) in two mouse calvaria ...

Arsenic and Cancer: Effects of Joint Administration of Arsenite and Selenite on the Genesis of Mammary Adenocarcinoma in Inbred Female C3H/St Mice

Bioinorganic Chemistry, 1978
The joint administration of 2 ppm of arsenic as arsenite and of 2 ppm of selenium as selenite in the drinking water of inbred female C3H/St mice increases the incidence of spontaneous mammary adenocarcinoma significantly over the simultaneous controls and animals receiving 2 ppm As as arsenite or 2 ppm Se as selenite alone, indicating that arsenic ...

Increased Expression of Intracisternal A-Particle RNA in Regenerated Myeloid Cells after X Irradiation in C3H/He Inbred Mice

Radiation Research, 2000
Myeloid Cells after X Irradiation in C3H/He Inbred Mice. Myeloid leukemia cells were derived from regenerated hematopoietic cells damaged by sublethal doses of X radiation in C3H/He inbred mice. We previously found that within the genome of the myeloid leukemia cells, a retrotransposon, the intracisternal A-particle (IAP) element, is integrated. Levels

[Tissue distribution of iso-metronidazole and metronidazole in tumor-bearing C3H inbred mice].

Archiv fur Geschwulstforschung, 1985
Among the group of nitroimidazole radiosensitizers, predominantly misonidazole and metronidazole have so far been submitted to an extensive clinical testing. However, neurotoxic side effects have limited the dose of the substance necessary to obtain a maximal effect of sensibilization. Therefore, extensive efforts are being undertaken in the search for

Selenium and cancer: Effects of selenium and of the diet on the genesis of spontaneous mammary tumors in virgin inbred female C3H/St mice

Bioinorganic Chemistry, 1978
Inbred female C3H/St mice exhibit the normal incidence of spontaneous mammary adenocarcinoma of 80--100% if they are maintained on a standard commercial laboratory diet containing 0.15 ppm of selenium with meat and dried skimmed milk as major sources of protein.

Studies of Trypanosoma Cruzi Clones in Inbred Mice

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1983
Two single-cell-isolate cloned stocks of the Sylvio-X10 strain, recovered from an acute human Trypanosoma cruzi infection, were used to infect C3H/HEN mice. The Sylvio-X10/4 clone produced a chronic infection in mice; clone Sylvio-X10/7 produced an acute lethal infection under identical experimental conditions.

Identification of inbred strains of mice: II. Characterization of different substrains of the C3H strain.

The Journal of heredity, 1978
Substrains of inbred C3H mice differ significantly in their genetic constitution with respect to biochemical markers, skin grafting, and skeletal variations. The presence of such discrepancies among substrains poses a problem when comparing conclusions based on experiments done in different substrains.

Hepatocarcinogenesis in the Context of Strain Differences in Energy Metabolism Between Inbred Strains of Mice (C57BL/6J and C3H/He)

2001
Liver neoplasia in mice is one of the most frequent tumor target tissue endpoints observed in 2-year carcinogenicity studies of the US National Toxicology Program (NTP). B6C3F1 mice are the hybrids of male C3H/He, which are highly sensitive (hepatomas in 7291% at 14 months), and C57B1/6J females, which exhibit a low susceptibility to spontaneous and ...
