Micro-Milling of Hardened AISI D2 Tool Steel
Advanced Materials Research, 2012The paper presents an experimental investigation into the slotting of hardened AISI D2 (~62HRC) tool steel using 0.5mm diameter coated (TiAlN) tungsten carbide (WC) end mills. SEM analysis of tool morphology and coating integrity was undertaken on all tools prior to testing.

Mechanics of micro-milling with round edge tools
CIRP Annals, 2011Abstract This paper presents analytical prediction of micro-milling forces from constitutive model of the material and friction coefficient. The chip formation process is predicted with a slip-line field model which considers the strain hardening, strain-rate and temperature effects on the flow stress of the material.

Tool runout and single-edge cutting in micro-milling
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2018Micro-milling is a direct and effective manufacturing method for complex three-dimensional miniaturized parts. Since tool runout has a great influence on micro-milling, this paper proposes a simple and effective method for measuring tool runout parameters.

Method of precise auto tool setting for micro milling
Transactions of Tianjin University, 2011Based on microscope and image processing, a new method of auto tool setting for micro milling was presented. Firstly, a realtime image of tool setting area was obtained by microscope and CCD camera, then image processing was carried out on this image and the gap between the tool and workpiece was calculated.

Cutting force denoising in micro-milling tool condition monitoring
International Journal of Production Research, 2008An independent component analysis (ICA) algorithm for cutting force denoising was applied in micro-milling tool condition monitoring. In micro-milling, the comparatively small cutting force signal is prone to contamination by relatively large noise, and as a result it is important to denoise the force signal before further processing it.

New tool-workpiece setting up technology for micro-milling
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2009A major issue in micromilling is the setting up with the necessary accuracy the work coordinate system on the machine. The spindle thermal stability during the setting up procedure make this a very difficult task. Thus, it is essential to develop new tool setting up technology to increase the process productivity, reduce machine setting up times and ...

Analysis of tool deflection in micro milling of graphite electrodes
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2013In this paper, the tool deflection is first analyzed analytically, based on a four-section cantilever beam representation of the tool. Contributions of different sections of the tool to total tool displacement are quantified. Then the influence of cutting parameters (width of cut, depth of cut, and feed per tooth) on tool deflection are investigated ...
