Cutting Edge Preparation of Micro Milling Tools

open access: yesProcedia CIRP, 2014
AbstractMicro milling is commonly used industrially for the production of precision components. Premature tool wear is usually the reason for a short tool life of cemented carbide end mills. An approach to improve the tool wear behavior is the defined cutting edge preparation.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Investigation of machining stability in micro milling considering the parameter uncertainty

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
Micro milling can fabricate miniaturized components using micro end mill at high rotational speeds. A major obstacle that limits the productivity in machining operations is the presence of machine tool chatter.

Investigation on tool wear and tool life prediction in micro-milling of Ti-6Al-4V

open access: yesNanotechnology and Precision Engineering, 2018
Short tool life and rapid tool wear in micromachining of hard-to-machine materials remain a barrier to the process being economically viable. In this study, standard procedures and conditions set by the ISO for tool life testing in milling were used to ...

Size Effects on Surface Generation in Micro Milling of Hardened Tool Steel [PDF]

open access: yesCIRP Annals, 2006
This paper presents the results of an extensive experimental investigation concerning size effects on surface generation by ball nose and flat end micro milling hardened tool steel. Cutting parameters were selected on the basis of a modular description of the uncut chip geometry. A theoretical model of the generated surfaces was used as a reference and

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Anti-Friction and Anti-Wear Mechanisms of Micro Textures and Optimal Area Proportion in the End Milling of Ti6Al4V Alloy

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, 2019
To solve the problems of low efficiency, poor surface quality, and short tool life in the milling of titanium alloys, this study took the micro-textured ball-end milling tool as a starting point and established a platform for friction and wear tests ...
