Evolution of red wine in oak barrels with different oxygen transmission rates. Phenolic compounds and colour [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Producción CientíficaOxygen is an important factor for the quality of wine aged in barrels. The development of a tool to classify wood by its oxygen transmission rate (OTR) has made it possible to use the same batch of wood to make barrels that oxygenate

Oxygen Supply of Islets of Langerhans by Photosynthetically Active Microalgae in Bioprinted Co‐Cultures Maintains Their Function in a Hypoxic Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study developed a bioprinted co‐culture system embedding rat pancreatic islets and Scenedesmus sp. microalgae spatially defined in close vicinity. Red light was found optimal to ensure microalgal photosynthesis while maintaining islet viability and functionality. A tailored co‐culture medium supported both cell types.

Effects of Hyperbaric Micro-Oxygenation on the Color, Volatile Composition, and Sensory Profile of Vitis vinifera L. cv. Monastrell Grape Must

open access: yesFermentation
Color, aroma, and overall sensory quality in red wines are largely influenced by oxygen availability during fermentation. This study evaluated the effects of micro-oxygenation under hyperbaric conditions on the physicochemical, chromatic, volatile, and ...

Engineering Micro Oxygen Factory to Slow Tumor Progression by Hyperoxia Microenvironment

open access: yes, 2021
Abstract While hypoxia promotes carcinogenesis, tumor aggressiveness, metastasis, and resistance to oncological treatments, the impacts of hyperoxia on tumors are rarely explored because in vivo long-lasting oxygen supply is a big challenge.

Airborne 1O2 Delivery via a Superhydrophobic Dressing as a Pathway to Next‐Generation Wound Therapies, an in Vivo Murine Burn Model Study

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the SH bandage placed on an infected burn wound and its role in wound healing. A superhydrophobic PDMS membrane coated with the PS verteporfin is placed over the wound area and illuminated with a red laser at 690 nm, generating airborne 1O2 above the tissue.

Beyond Presumptions: Toward Mechanistic Clarity in Metal‐Free Carbon Catalysts for Electrochemical H2O2 Production via Data Science

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐free carbon catalysts enable the sustainable synthesis of hydrogen peroxide via two‐electron oxygen reduction; however, active site complexity continues to hinder reliable interpretation. This review critiques correlation‐based approaches and highlights the importance of orthogonal experimental designs, standardized catalyst passports ...

Elastomeric Micro‐Balloons for Remote Control of Cerebral Blood Flow and Real‐Time In vivo Imaging of Rodent Brain Response to Hypoperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication of MRI‐compatible elastomeric micro‐balloons via a multi‐step bubble casting process, where the monolithic elastomeric wall is selectively stiffened for reversible and controlled inflation and elasticity, depending on the target vessels for graded occlusion of cerebral arteries.

Discrimination of aging wines with alternative oak products and micro-oxygenation by FTIR-ATR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The use of alternative oak wood products (AOP), such as chips, cubes and staves, among other, from different geographical origins is a common practice for wine aging, where the micro-oxygenation (MOX, adding small doses of oxygen constantly over time) is
