PK-resistant PrP species are responsible for acute synaptotoxicity.

open access: yes, 2018
(A) PrP immuno-depletion selectively depleted ~77 ± 12% of PrPC (dNBH) from cNBH and ~77 ± 9% total PrP species and 96 ± 4% of PK-resistant PrP (dM1000) from cM1000 relative to the normal rabbit serum (NRS) controls.

Correcting Apparent Priming Bias Unveils Fertilizer Nitrogen‐Risk Archetypes of Surplus and Depletion Across Asian Rice Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Correcting the apparent priming effect resolves systematic biases in Asian rice fertilizer nitrogen accounting. Net soil retention drops below 7%, while 48% of fertilizer escapes, inflicting US$98.53 billion in annual reactive‐nitrogen damages. High‐resolution mapping uncovers N‐risk archetypes across 42% of the rice area, delivering a spatially ...

Improving Light Outcoupling and Addressing Measurement Specifics in Perovskite Light‐Emitting Diodes with Light Management Foils

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research
Near‐infrared perovskite light‐emitting diodes (PeLEDs), with four perovskite (PK) layer thicknesses and optional micro‐textured light management (LM) foil, are fabricated to evaluate their effects on light outcoupling efficiency.

Chronic Methamphetamine Effects on Brain Structure and Function in Rats. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Methamphetamine (MA) addiction is a growing epidemic worldwide. Chronic MA use has been shown to lead to neurotoxicity in rodents and humans. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies in MA users have shown enlarged striatal volumes and positron emission ...

Twisted MoS2 Bilayers as Functional Elements in Memtransistors: Hysteresis, Optical Signatures, and Photocurrent Kinetics

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Layered 2D materials are considered as promising for memristive applications due to their ultimate vertical scalability compared to conventional semiconductor films and pronounced hysteresis properties. Bias‐resolved Raman and Photoluminescence mapping is used to quantify strain from phonon shifts and carrier density from the exciton‐trion ...

Capacitive versus Faradaic Microelectrodes for Extracellular Stimulation: A Fully Coupled FEM–Hodgkin–Huxley Study of Thresholds and Current Redistribution

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A fully coupled FEM–HH model shows that ideally capacitive microelectrodes can achieve lower charge‐density thresholds than Faradaic contacts under current‐controlled stimulation. The advantage stems from the dynamics of surface current density on capacitive interfaces, which redirects current beneath adherent neurons.

On mechanical and morphological investigations of tungsten inert gas welded SS 304 thin pipe joints

open access: yesMeasurement + Control, 2020
Tungsten inert gas welding is one of the established joining processes for stainless steel. But hitherto very little has been reported on induced residual stresses in circular thin pipe joints during tungsten inert gas welding of SS 304.

How does the Kids SIPsmartER program impact the sugar‐sweetened beverage intake of students: An investigation beyond total treatment effect in randomized controlled trial

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study develops and empirically estimates a structural framework to decompose the causal pathways of multilevel behavioral interventions targeting adolescent health behaviors. We apply this framework to the Kids SIPsmartER (KSS) program, a 6‐month, school‐based intervention evaluated through a clustered randomized controlled trial in rural
