Comparison of three contrast agents in the diagnosis of cracked teeth using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)

open access: yesScientific Reports
Cracked teeth are difficult to detect on conventional cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Contrast agents may improve visualization of fine and superficial cracks. This study compared three contrast agents for their diagnostic performance.

Considering the Effect of Non-Propagating Cracks on Fatigue Limit Prediction in the Critical Distance Method Framework

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Although the material has developed micro-scale cracks, the micro-cracks stop propagating and transform into non-propagating cracks (NPCs) under fatigue limit loading.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Avidin is evolutionarily conserved in fish but dispensable for development and resistance against Streptococcus agalactiae in zebrafish

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

Method for Detecting Micron Cracks on a Magnetic Rotor Surface Based on a Support Vector Machine

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Micro-scale cracks on the surface of a magnetic rotor are difficult to detect because of the formation of stains. A method that is based on computer vision and a support vector machine (SVM) that can accurately and rapidly locate micro-scale cracks are ...

Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy due to Biallelic Pathogenic Variants in PIGM

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective PIGM encodes a critical enzyme in the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchor biosynthesis pathway. While promoter‐region mutations in PIGM have been associated with a relatively mild phenotype characterized by portal vein thrombosis and absence seizures, recent evidence suggests that coding‐region mutations result in a more severe

Autonomous Processes in Concrete Matrix on Bio Products

open access: yesBulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Jassy: Constructions, Architechture Section, 2021
In this paper are presented different approaches of microbiological type, on the concrete matrix, that has the ability to self-healing the micro-cracks in their early phase.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Micro-mechanical behaviors of granite under cyclic heating/cooling conditions investigated by GBM3D

open access: yesGeomechanics and Geophysics for Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources
During the exploitation of hot dry rock, the surface of the convective heat transfer channel undergoes repeated cycles of heating and cooling. Investigating the microstructure of granite after such cyclic thermal treatments is crucial for ensuring the ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...
