Double‐Transition‐Metal MXenes: Multimetallic 2D Platforms for Next‐Generation Biomedicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The present work explores recent progress in double‐transition‐metal MXenes and focuses on their potential as multifunctional biomedical nanoplatforms whose tunable optical, electronic, mechanical, and surface properties enable imaging, theranostics, antimicrobial activity, biosensing, tissue engineering, and drug delivery.

Sorbitol Uptake and Oxygen Transfer Shape AOX1 Promoter Induction in Formate Dehydrogenase‐Deficient Komagataella phaffii

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology
In Komagataella phaffii, the use of formate as an AOX1 promoter (PAOX1) inducer in combination with sorbitol, a non‐repressive carbon source, has emerged as a promising alternative to methanol‐based expression systems.

Soft, Degradable, and Magnetic Microcarriers for Encapsulation and Guided Transport of Drugs and 3D Spheroids

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents soft, degradable hydrogel microcarriers that combine magnetic responsiveness with the ability to host multiple therapeutic and cellular components. Produced by droplet microfluidics, the carriers maintain structural integrity during manipulation, permit controlled breakdown under physiological conditions, and enable guided motion for

A Dual‐Bioresponsive and Programmable Microneedle Matrix as a Bioinspired Coupler for Orchestrating Diabetic Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This project developed a smart bandage‐like patch (a microneedle array) for repairing diabetic bone damage. It intelligently senses signals from infection and inflammation, then releases its medicines in a specific, timed sequence: first an antibacterial agent, then an anti‐inflammatory agent, and finally growth factors.

The role of cell to cell interactions and quorum sensing in formation of biofilms in drinking water bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa in drinking water distribution systems readily colonize the pipe surfaces and form biofilms.

Layered Nanoporous Platforms for SERS Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Here, we present a detailed investigation of the SERS performance of layered nanoporous metals. The controlled deposition of well‐defined, stacked porous layers enabled a systematic analysis of the effects of multimetallic systems in SERS experiments. Numerical models are also used to support the experimental findings.

Assessing TiO2/Chitosan‐Based Hydrogels for Water Remediation: Sunlight‐Driven Degradation of Antibiotics in Water

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Chitosan–TiO2 composite hydrogels combine adsorption of organic pollutants with photocatalysis, allowing to remove 85% of a broadly diffused antibiotic (sulfamethoxazole) under direct sunlight irradiation, opening great promises for point‐of‐use, outdoor applications.

Beneficial microbes in a changing environment: are they always helping plants to deal with insects?

open access: yes, 2013
Plants have a complex immune system that defends them against attackers (e.g. herbivores and microbial pathogens) but that also regulates the interactions with mutualistic organisms (e.g.

Influence of orthodontic appliances and nitrate on the oral microbiota

open access: yesApplied Microbiology and Biotechnology
In this pilot study, we investigated the bacterial changes introduced on the subgingival, tongue, and saliva microbiota during fixed orthodontic treatment, with or without daily administration of nitrate-containing beet juice for 2 weeks in 22 ...
